Sign of a shorted/damaged m2 slot?
I have two m2 drives, ones sata, ones nvme.
There was a problem that happened so I went to test the m2 slot if it was still alive, I plugged in my m2 sata but windows does not detect it and when I went to retrieve it later, the ssd is hot to the touch BUT when plugged in through usb the drive is read no problems.

Im not brave enough to test with my nvme drive thats way more precious so am I correct in assuming my m2 slot is just fried

The NVME slot might not support SATA mode, or might require you first change that mode in the BIOS.

Is the issue on the NVME Slot or the SATA-only Slot?

no I have used the nvme drive before it worked in that slot before an event occured that led to today. im dont want to risk installing this drive to fully confirm my slot is dead

what cpu/mobo

read the manual, some boards need a later cpu for the nvme slot, or the m.2 can be disabled in bios to use the sata ports
And on some Motherboard, it can be that because you have an M2 that is SATA only mode, this M2 slot possibly can't be used at the same time as the NVME slot. Thus populating both of those M2 at the same time might result in the M2 SATA going undetected in the OS.

this one is a laptop, had to replace the brick because my laptop would not power on so I think it broke. I leave my laptop just running in the background constantly. Ive heard tales of psu exploding killing components on a computer so Im wondering if this is one of those. Except it just killed the m2
If the PSU actually killed anything it would most likely kill the entire Motherboard, since Laptops are much sensitive to such things. The PSU can fail on Laptops and not cause a problem, first off it's external and then also unless it causes a surge or burning at the Motherboard end, the battery will take over for the power.

What is the brand + model of Laptop?
I dont have a battery anymore its entirely powered by the wall. Hp Pavillion gaming cx0
That's not a safe way to run a Laptop.
Can get a replacement battery off Ebay.

Just need to know the full laptop model so we can see the model of battery it needs.

i dont need a battery tho, Im just worried I lost a m2 port
Nothing you can do then if it's bad. I wouldn't risk the drive.
If it's within the warranty period you could try to have them fix it or replace the whole Motherboard under warranty. Otherwise, save up for a newer Laptop. For now, just use that drive via USB.
if it does not work, it does not work

use the drive in a usb enclosure or another pc
