Steam downloads turning off wifi
Hi guys, i have a problem that i cant seem to find a fix for regarding my internet. my overall WIFI is normal and doesn't glitch but when i start downloading a game on steam, my wifi gets knocked off. it doesn't immediately turn off, the download speed slowing goes down then turns off the wifi.

does anyone know why this is happening, its with every download i do.

are you sure its disconnecting?

steam downloads and decompresses files
its download/decompress/copy uses alot of disk activity

you will see the download speed graph go up/down while its installing
also watch the disk line to see what its doing
it may also be limited by cpu

It is disconnecting and i have to turn the wifi off and back on again for it to work again, and sometimes i have to restart my whole pc just to fix it

to be blunt this sounds like failing WIFI card.....over the past almost 30 years I have changed out many WIFI cards doing the same thing.....would try drivers first but if it does the same thing with the newest driver installed dont waste anymore of your time on playing with it buy a new 20 dollar WIFI card and fix your issues......no motherboard made in the last 5 years has the WIFI built in unless its something like a PI.....even the mothers with the card enclosed in a RF shield can be changed but you may have to pull the motherboard out of the case to get to the 2 screws on the bottom holding the WIFI card in the vertical mount and RF shield.....

real driver issues would show up no matter the load placed on the card.....good luck......

Could be a bandwidth issue either with the network card or the router.

I have had this happen many times before. It's usually a driver issue or how the Network Adapter is configured in WinOS. The defaults for a network adapter are usually terrible at best. Tweak it.

Limit the download speed on Steam and invest in a router with SQM like Amazon's Eero.
