Why do headphone cushions suck?
The hardware always outlives the fake, awful leather.

Is there some workaround, cause it always looks like crap when that synthetic layer flakes off. Is there real leather pads you can buy?

They have real leather headphones that are not bonded leather or pleather.

Most replacements I see are all "protein leather" bs.

Odd how in 2024, the deciding factor in buying audio equipment is the availability of genuine leather replacement pads on Amazon.
Sometimes aftermarket ones are better quality

OR, just buy a quality headphone to begin with. Here: https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-599-Open-Headphone/dp/B01L1IICR2 :steamhappy:

I’d suggest momentum 4 instead

Take a closer look. The ones that I recommended are:
#1 Wired, much better sound consistency.
#2 Review much better.
#3 Are significantly more budget-friendly.

Don't waste money on wireless nonsense, friend!:steamhappy:

Mine was the size of the earpads, after my first try were Sony with embarrasingly thin and small earpads, that I had to return. I settled on Sennheiser-branded EPOS GSP 670. The earpads are still in perfect condition after more than 2 years, but otherwise I wouldn't recommend them. They can't mix Bluetooth and USB/dongle audio, or freely switch between them, and when on Bluetooth the loopback function doesn't work at all. (You can't hear yourself.)

But now I'm waiting for general availability of good Bluetooth Low Energy options before upgrading.

Ok, ok. That's cool. Not trying to rain on your pride parade or anything. You just be you.

That's a good thing the hardware outlives the fabric
You can get replacement headphone cushions

If you get the kind with replaceable cords with jacks that plug into the headphones themselves, yeah. After thirty years of faulty cords, that's only kind I bother with now. That's the weak point where all headphones, expensive or cheap, always fail. I don't know why anyone would buy any other kind unless you are just buying new sh** to be trendy. I honestly think paying over fifty bucks is pointless when they all have like a fifteen-year lifespan max.
Yeah I agree, mini xlrs are pretty reliable. I have sennheisers with removal chords and unfortunately they're actually annoying in this respect, cause they're are a non standard plug and sometimes it needs wiggling around to get a sound. That hasn't stopped them being popular with djs etc

When your OEM headphone pads fail, IMO the best replacements are Brainwavz hybrid foam/pleather - far more comfortable and well worth the extra $ over the generic replacements.

Dekoni makes replacements earpads for popular brands. For home I use velour but on the go I stick to hybrids. If you are male then you might want to invest in cleaning the earpads regularly as well since most male sweat disgust which'll eat away pleather due to bacteria, acid and minerals.

Pleader also need to be properly treated just like any other pleader material else it'll crack due to entropy and/or going dry.
