Need a decent phone upgrade from a LG v20
I found some galaxy s20/s21 and note 10 for $200-ish

Anything else I should look at?

just get cheap budget phone no need to spend extra money on a phone thats a basically a computer thats why your carry your lappy around everywhere you go
I'd not suggest an older Samsung phone like the Note10+ (I have one), while it's good, there's always the fear of an update causing the dreaded green line. Same goes for the Note20 Ultra, I have one too, and it has the dread green line, and as a bonus, pink line on the screen too.

I'd, however, suggest a new Samsung mid ranger like the the A35, or IF you wanna splurge somewhat more, the A55.....good handphones with decent cameras, 120Hz screen, 6.6" screen, mSD memory expansion slot, though the A55 stands out more with its metal frame and more premium feel. IF you can, find a used S23 series phone, it's the OneUI6.1 update which brings many new features to it, though I'd wait till some of the bugs have been worked out.

Do take note that the A35/55 would NOT have the Samsung AI functionality like the S23/24/Flip5/Fold 5/etc. I have the Flip5 too and it does have some of the Samsung AI functions of my S24 Ultra, though not the full suit.

All those suggestions other than the note10 are way out of my price range
Phones are one of those things you use everyday you should get the very best of. So either get the latest iPhone or latest Android.
Whoa, I didn't realize that the A35 was >300USD, I'd figured it to be around 250USD, my bad. Well, it looks like budget phones would be right, what about the A24? I don't use it, but it does have a 6.5" 90Hz screen, 128/4GB, 128/6GB, 128/8GB config with mSD expansion slot, so storage would not be a problem, also old skool 3.5mm port like the V20. It has a plastic frame, so I'd suggest a good protective case for it.
ended up going with a s20 FE 5g which is pretty nice. Missing the 3.5mm port though.
All you need a phone for is to make calls and send the occasional text message. You'll live longer by not using it 24/7.
I "cheaped" out on my phone for the first time in years getting a Samsung S22 (the non plus or Ultra version), it's flat out the worst phone I've ever owned! I only use my phone for calls/text/web browsing/streaming audio/video and never had half the problems with my prior phones that I've had with this one. Frankly, I think I would have had a better experience with a budget model Samsung over the base "flagship".

Before any Apple lovers comment, I use an iPhone for work and have had a 6,8 Plus, XR, and 13 and my experience with them has been pretty awful as well. For everything the iPhone does better than Andriod (and there are a few to be fair), there are 3 or 4 things that are worse imo.

Long story short, get whatever fits your budget (used Note10 isn't a bad buy at all), but don't get caught up in the flagship models unless you are willing to shell out for the top of the line models.

Sounds like a bad luck with the s22? Where did you buy it?

The s20 FE 5g is miles better than my v20 for most things, loving it so far

I had the S20+ prior to my current phone (upgrade every two years) and it was far better than my current phone. I could 100% just have a lemon as I bought it as an upgrade deal to put my wife and I's plans together and she generally likes her phone (same phone, although it has speaker issues that mine doesn't which is why I still kind of subscribe to the phone being a bad product). I bought it direct from the carrier (Bell here in Canada).
