Is 48 gb’s of ram ok?
2x8gb 3600mhz and 2x16gb 3600mhz
Is this ok for games and the health of the pc?

Don't expect it to run like 2 matched set of the same kind but if your computer starts it's ok
It might be slower but I doubt you will see a difference that's if it works... I've never mixed and matched ram

It will work.

more ram is only helpful if you need more ram

dual channel or hybrid/mixed/flex is better than a single dimm

More then enough if not doing heavy professional work or in need of a RAM-Disk

If it`s just for gaming then I would use just 2x16 GB.

You should check the CL timing (lower and even is better) and Voltage for each RAM. It will default to the slowest (highest CL timing). It's best if they match along with the MHz. If one set of RAM is way slower than the other, avoid using it as it will just slow down both sets.

The amount of RAM being 48GB won't matter at all and is plenty. 32GB is ideal these days for gaming and multi-tasking.

If you have an Intel motherboard, you might had Duel channel memory, this means slots 1&3 as well as 2&4 work together (so when you place in your RAM have it 8GB | 16GB | 8GB | 16GB). It will make it slightly faster to access and work together better.

Make sure under your BIOS you set the best XMP profile on your RAM.

Yea whenever you mix RAM, ensure they are all the same specs.
Frequency + Timings + Voltage.

u need 128 gb brother, WAKE UP

No, it’s not enough. Download more RAM!

For gaming, 2x 16GB is more than enough for now, and the immediate future. Heck, unless you use a lot of software/programs that chew up RAM like a mad mutha, 32GB should last for quite a while. Both my rigs are running 2x 16GB each, for games and some ripping programs, nothing major like some productivity programs that might require more RAM, and it's been great. For games, I'd be more concerned about VRAM instead...

Why would you be doing 48GB anyways?
If you have 2x 16GB then that's plenty.

If you really need more then do either 64G total (2x 32GB) or 96GB total (2x 48GB) if Motherboard supports that.

Many modern Motherboards have an updated BIOS you can apply; allowing support for the RAM that are available in 48GB; but do not do 1x 48GB; stick to using the Dual Channel methods.

For Gaming, 32GB total is fine.

32GB will become the bare minimum soon though; as future Motherboards will most likely offer the newer CAMM2 type of RAM.

48gb.. is this like an intel 990X on an 59X motherboard?
with 3 lane memory support and 6 ramsockets, so you did 8x8Gb ddr3??

that is a system from 2011.. while it WAS thousands of euro back than.. and the best there than it is old like 14 years old.. as pc generations are on averey 1.5-2 years apart and you replace your pc normally every 2 generations.. you see how thats basicly an antique..

that cpu will give even the 4060 and 3060 a bottleneck of about 20% (meaning only 80% gets used)
ofcourse thats without overclock so with an overclock it likely can support that card..

realisticly though
it could likely support an 3050... or an 1660ti/1660S at best.. which still can give you 90fps in 1080p. which is playable for some..

Modern Motherboards support 1x 48GB in each slot. Yes they make 48GB DDR5

How is this news to folks? Please try to keep up.

I suspect the OP is doing 2x 16GB + 2x 8GB; which is 48GB

But I would not do that since many Motherboards don't do well with all 4 slots populated at the same time. Better to do 2x 16GB or if the board supports it; do 2x 32GB or 2x 48GB

ah right... 24gb and 48gb dims.. I knew... just not naturually was the first thing I though.. I still find thouse odd and have not buiild with them... lets say the old binary numbers just are to hardwared I ran DREAM the 2 4 8 16 etc.. numbers range..

was thinking he was doing something funky like 2x16 and 2x8 which would be stupid.
or indeed he might have picked up an x58 system at the cheap like 10-50 euro stick a newer gpu in it for also like 50.. and call it a day.

as for slots
I have ran 8x16GB for years now.. it works fine... on a 4 lane motherboard

it is bullocks 4 slots utilised is bad...
what is however true is that you only have 2 lanes.. on mainsteam motherboards if all 4 ramslots are full that means all data will have to travel trough 2 dims which gives some delay
but very minor.

yes 2 larger sticks do tend to run faster than 4 smaller ones.. and generally the price difference between 2 sticks of 32gb and 4 of 16 is minimal... so not really an issue.

main reason I generally advise people to use 2 slots when building a system is so they keep the option open to double their ram in the future without having to toss what they already got.

as long as matching dimms are in the matching slots, it will be dual channel

but be sure to use the xmp profile for the dimm with higher timings
