Gpu upgrade suggestion.
Hey guys so iam planning to upgrade my current gpu which is gtx 1060 3 gb. My budget is around $450. can u guys help me with suggesting a right gpu? My resolution is going to be 1080p. I want to play the latest games at 1080p at good fps. iam also into online competitive esport games like cs 2 and league of legends. I initially thought about getting 4060 ti but then 7600 xt came into my mind. so which one is better for 1080p gaming? iam also planning to stream my games. Any suggestions are appreciated :)
Rest of my pc specs below:
Cpu - i5 12400f
Ram - Corsair 16 gb(8x2) ddr4 3200 Mhz
Psu - cooler master mwe 650 gold v2
Current gpu - msi gtx 1060 3 gb oc.

if you are planning on streaming the 4060 TI with it's NVENC HEVC is alot better then AMD's offerings in terms of performance when recording/streaming. if they are basically the same price
i'd get the 4060 ti over the 7600 xt any day, as it's just faster

the 7600xt is basically on par with a 4060 (non TI)

also i'm assuming you are using USD?
for around 400-450 you can get a 7700xt
Amazon[www.amazon.com]
or
Newegg [www.newegg.com]

Both 4060 Ti and 7600 XT are bad and cost $100 more then they should for their performance.
I would look for RX 6800 for $375, easily beats 4060 Ti and demolishes 7600 XT.
Should be able to get RX 7800 XT for around $450-475 too.

NVIDIA is better for streaming because their encoders (NVEC) are the best for that, so just get the best NVIDIA GPU you can afford

This is why picking an Intel CPU model that doesn't have an iGPU is rather dumb.
Unless your GPU is going to always be NVIDIA.
Cause if you had modern Intel CPU w/ iGPU then you can easily do well with using the Intel iGPU for video encoding. But if you will have to rely on dedicated GPU for the encoding, then you should always go with NVIDIA GPU.

Try second hand market maybe, if you are running a 1080p native res I would be looking at getting a Nvidia 3060 12GB, they go pretty cheap second hand and handle modern games fine. If you want AMD then look at a 6600XT 8GB second hand it performs better than a 3060 but you are also stuck with 8GB VRAM and AMD drivers. Personally I would stick with Nvidia due to stable drivers and features as said above, but that is just my opinion

I run an Nvidia 3060 12GB with a i5 10400F and the extra VRAM helps with many games especially when running higher quality textures via addons or mods.

define good fps. What fps are you getting now with that 1060?

The best thing your budget can get is the RX 7700 XT. Then the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB, then the RX 7600 XT, which is between the RTX 4060 and Ti.

I don't stream, but I've been incredibly pleased with AV1 for recording. Small video sizes, great quality, and I don't notice any performance loss. You get smaller video sizes and comparable quality compared to HEVC, and it's royalty free and has good support from current generation hardware and software now. If you're manually encoding, HEVC will be faster though.

This! I have this GPU with a very similar setup (same CPU and RAM amount/speed) to you and i can run all games on high to ultra settings with a modest FPS 50+. Starfield runs comfortably at 60 fps with vsync on at 60

Cant comment on the steaming side though as i've not tried it

By good fps, i meant 60+ fps. Iam not getting that fps on latest games with my 1060 at 1080p resolution.

I was on 1080p when I still had a 2070 and I remember experimenting with games like Starfield and The Last of Us which then were the latest games. I remember getting a steady 50-60 fps but this was only the first like five to ten minutes of gameplay. I didn't go any further, but seemed like a smooth experience performance wise.

So I'd say if you mean games like the ones I described then anything equivalent to a 2070 or faster should feel right.

Unless the games just aren't demanding. Like a 1060 6GB is fine for Tomb Raider 2013 but no where near good enough for GTAV or Red Dead 2

Go for RX 7600 16GB Version and you be fine. Forget the scare stories on Drivers as Drivers can be bad on any

Yeah, I figure the same. 1060 is pretty old. Crazy. I remember the eras. I remember people not liking 2xxx series I think because of raytracing and prices starting to jump? 3xxx was covid/bitcoin stuff? 4xxx is purely price to performance increase being lousy?.

I think 1xxx was when I really started to get into self-pc building and using Steam. Only series I don't remember something bad with.

RTX 30 has been rather affordable the last year or so. But most of the RTX 40 just aren't worth getting and may have issues on PCIE 2.0/3.0 boards. Even an RTX 3080 runs fine on most boards that only has PCIE 2.x

Forget the RT, the RTX do at least offer better raw performance anyways and the later support of DLSS 2 and 3 can be a big plus
