I just went into Safe Mode and renamed the app EXEs for Edge.
Rebooted and it was all good. Just that it killed the link for URL files but that wasn't a problem; just use Open With and select my other web browser; now the link is proper once again with working icons and such.
You can get rid of the watermark and unlock user customization via the Registry.
in general, a safety net, that could be wiped, or locked in a state that boots back to when it was first installed, getting rid of everything you put on it.
I remember years ago formating with only 1 computer reinstalling windows only to find out my driver's where not on the windows cd, and I had no network card drivers or even graphic drivers, I had to wait a day to a friend's house to download the drivers. Luckily that solution was available, today you might be able to use a smart phone but still recommended you have some time of online connection to help trouble shoot any possible reinstallation issues
In the past Rufus worked for me with a bootable USB stick make sure the bios is set to boot from USB before hardrive
you can also use a program like driver booster and it will backup, find, update (set to ignore gpu driver before updating drivers), your drivers for you.
its been very helpful locating old or obscure drivers on old systems for me, currently and in the past.
if you need to boot from a specific drive, you can press which ever key needed (in most cases F8) to get to the advanced boot menu, then select the drive you want to boot from.
you can go the bios route, but its quicker with F8, just keep in mind, which drive you need to select.
not that its needed now a days, but also when installing, you can grab drivers beforehand and have them on your flash drive while installing the OS.
or as i mentioned in another comment, modify your OS iso with NTLite and remove what you want removed and add everything you need, saving you a ton of time, so you dont have to do any of that, after its installed.
For example, my fx-9590 with tpm 1.2 module doesn't need bypasses to install windows 11. It will proceed with the install and not bother me at all.
For all other computers that don't pass the Microsoft sniff test, I simply use command prompt and enter regedit from there and input my bypasses.
ya, i use 1 (really old one that i put win 11 pro on) that i either bring to the garage or the basement, depending on where im working on stuff, that i way when i need to look up something, i dont have to constantly run to my desktop, or bother with a tiny cell phone screen.
Yup, I always work on small engines on my vehicles, If im dirty I wont have to worry about touching things in the house, or if im welding or grinding something, that dust can get everywhere, I don't care to much about that q6600 system if it dies from that, and it handles sub zero really well
yup, or wasting time running back and forth from pc to the work your doing, also while a phone is handy, the screen is very much to small to view stuff properly, when working on things that you need to see better.
yup, those old laptops, while brand new looking (in my case), i very much dont mind if they get messed up, as the convenience is more important, not to mention, i have a pile of them... likely around 40 or 50 (including many old desktops)
i used to get them free or buy them for dirt cheap, when people tossed them aside because it was "broken" according to them, or broken screens, thermal issues (like old paste), HDD broken and other various things, so they went and bought new ones, leaving these sitting in boxes, so i offered to take them off their hands.
i either fixed up, cleaned inside and out, then sold them for $100 each (desktops for more), needless to say, i never got to all of them cause i had way to many.
. Whhen microsoft stops supporting the previous version of windows do you know what happens? NOT only all the future programs ns games will not worrk on it but also the programs and games you have already installed(including firefox, steam word excel e.t.c) will also stop wrorking the day that the windows 10 support stops(if your pc still have 10 then)
. Not only that but you cant connect to the internet and you get a message that says: ''your OS is not supported by the internet. Please upgrade to the latest version of windows to have access to the internet'' That why we must all upgrade to trhe latest windows. As for updates that colleague at the office told me that the pcs that he installed 11 receives the monthly updates with no problems.
MS dropping support updates for Win10 in Oct 2025 isn't going to hurt anything right away. It would still be a viable OS for years still as the extended updates continue into 2027
There is no real compatibility difference between Win 10 vs 11 for Games.
Support for Win7 as far as Microsoft was concerned ended Jan 2020, before Win11 even came out. Valve waited to cut off Win7/8 so they could drop both at the same time, ad Win8.1 support from MS ended on Jan 2023
if your games arent running on either 10 or 11, then you are either missing something (ms runtimes, desktop runtimes, bad gpu driver, etc.., or ms defender is corrupting game files, or blocking them from running.
