DDR5 upgrade?
Is it worth to upgrade now from DDR4 or should i wait a little longer?

Just for DDR5? No. But if you're going to build a new system because your old one is too old/slow then it would be a good idea to build around DDR5 since you're building new anyways.
wait

and what mobo?
on boards with ddr4 and ddr5 ram slots, you can only use one type at a time, not both
When doing new build there is no point using DDR4 anymore or when you need to upgrade CPU and it requires new motherboard.

I know that, thats why i want to upgrade to ddr5.

All good then going for DDR5.
Make sure to get 6000 Mhz CL 30 for Ryzen or Intel or can also go for 6400 Mhz CL 32 for Intel.

You're kind of muddling concepts and terms. You're probably not building a new system just for DDR5. And there's not really much of a question if a new system, using the current platforms, which RAM you should be using.

I mean are you going to avoid building a new system if someone doesn't think DDR5 is good? What do you think might happen with DDR5 if you wait a little bit longer? It's been available for for two years now, so what are you imagining?

Better performance and have far better components than next gen consoles. Ugh and steam coming to consoles??? Makes me want to vomit.

DDR 6 will be just around the corner come summer of 2025 id personally wait , DDR 5 is having issues which will only cause them to push DDR 6 faster into the market.

DDR 6 will be the same having issues on release. Plus it will be extremely expensive.

I'm not sure I consider something that might be a year to a year and a half away (if not longer) worth waiting on if someone wants more performance right now. You don't prolong a performance upgrade you want right now for that long, especially over RAM generation of all things.

There is no definite launch date I'm finding for DDR6 either, so who knows if that's when it comes? Everything I'm finding from last year and this year says "expected in the next few years".The earliest mention of expected launch years I'm finding is 2025, and even that's not guaranteed and seems more expected for the commercial/server segment.

New platforms will need to be made to adopt it. That's certainly not going to be Intel's next platform either (coming later this year). Do you think Intel launches the 15th generation late this year and then a new generation on DDR6 middle of next year? I find that doubtful. AMD's stuff later this year will be on AM5 and that's DDR5. So maybe that comes with AM6 and Zen 6. In 2026? Maybe?

I think you're probably looking at 2026+ for desktop consumer availability, or at best the very tail end of 2025 if Intel and AMD have a very fast turnaround on a new generation.

And then DDR6 is going to be expensive at first. And will it have its own issues? Will initial speeds/timings be great enough compared to what DDR5 has out at the time? So maybe it's even more like 2027 or 2028 that it makes sense for more people. If you're calling what the RAM market has going on now "issues", don't expect DDR6 to magically improve upon that day one and for that to happen a year from now. And even if it did, you really expect someone who wants an upgrade now to just wait that long?

Well mein fuhrer.

What do you use your machine for?

If you are having a CPU bottle neck and are going to upgrade, I would either see about getting top of the line DDR4 stuff used or just get DDR5 so you can upgrade again in the future easier.

As for DDR6 I think Illusion of Progress made a very good argument as for why waiting for DDR6 is a bad idea.

And personally I am very much of the mind that no it will not be out anytime soon in any meaningful capacity for personal computing. Arrowlake and the next AM5 CPU's wont be using it atleast from what I know. Unless Arrowlake is delayed or something, but even then you are probably basically redesigning everything if you are going to make a DDR6 product. I would say this, wait for Arrow lake in 2025, because intel will need to sell cheap to compete with AMD's earlier launch me thinks. And besides we might see new AMD GPU's assuming they righted that ship.

Not a fan of amd and ryzen
you never upgrade just for ddr5.

besides :
the fastest ddr4 is still faster than the fastest ddr5 at this point.

generally as you update you do it for other reasons.
and you look for the solution thats the best or cheapest answer to those reason.
