Event viewer warnings (NVIDIA Open GL Driver)
Hi, about 2 weeks ago I installed a new GPU in my system, 4070 TI Super. Everything works fine and i'm not experiencing any kind of crashes or problems running games, however I have noticed that every so often my mouse cursor would display the blue spinning loading symbol seemingly for no reason while nothing is really happening, while reading a website or general use. I have since managed to track down in Event Viewer this error: NVidia OpenGL Driver (Event ID: 2). I don't have a clue what this means and haven't been able to find much about it online. According to my log 6 instances of this warning seem to appear at around every 5 minute interval. The timing of which lines up perfectly with the frustrating loading cursor icon.

My bios is fully up to date, and I've also tried updating the GPU drivers through GeForce Experience. I am at a loss at what to do. I really aren't motivated to do a fresh boot of windows if I can help it.

Specs:

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
Gainward Phantom 4070 TI Super
32GB G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5-6000 CL30
ASRock B650 LiveMixer
WD Black SN850x 2TB

Any help would be appreciated because it is getting on my nerves lol

If you haven't already, re-install drivers. Preferably with DDU in this case.

Wipe out all 3 gpu brands with DDU app in Safe Mode. This will also wipe the Chipset Drivers if you do all 3 brands. Once all wiped out, reboot normally then ASAP bring up Windowa Updates and Pause for the maximum length of time, just for now.

Then download and install the latest:

AMD AM5 Ryzen Chipset Driver

NVIDIA GeForce RTX series Desktop Driver

Reboot after each install completes. Then configure Nvidia Control Panel properly.

Thanks a lot for the replies, I wasn't aware of this DDU software before now. Unfortunately I only saw the first message when I started trying to fix it, so I've just done NVIDIA as that is what my old GPU was as well. Hopefully this fixes it, if not I will try the more thorough steps. Thanks again for the quick helpful responses.

I have instructions for DDU and official link on my Steam Profile in the Comments

Hi i have the same problem and i read that problem also on reddit. I think the problem has something to do with AM5 because I have also an AM5 CPU and the person on Reddit also. It can be a mistake of me but with my old AM4 CPU i had not this problems.

I can't find any solid information on this specific error, but I'd suggest trying some searches for the exact phrase "GPU fell off the bus" and see if any of the resulting forum/bugtracker threads have solutions or workarounds that make sense to you. That phrase is an error from the Nvidia Linux drivers that I suspect has some overlap in underlying causes, but Linux users are a lot more vocal about it because Linux is still pretty terrible (although improving) at recovering from this kind of situation.

Hi, this thread is a bit old now but eventually I discovered myself the name mentioned in the error was something to do with AM5 and I actually ended up solving this issue by uninstalling the AMD adrenaline software, seemed to be some kind of conflict with the Nvidia drivers. In future I will only install AM5 driver/chipset stuff manually rather than using their software. I hope this helps you as it did me

On a side note, for older GPU's, AMD Adrenaline is better to use to find updated chipset drivers without having to go through AMD themselves and searching for the driver for said motherboard series although it does not directly install Adrenaline as it usually does.

The 4070 TI was not supported fully until March 2024 this year. I cannot say how I know this, but I do.

If you are having issues with an Nvidia GPU and use AM5 make sure your manufacturer did not release a newer BIOS with improved support.

For some AM5 boards, you will need a newer BIOS to run the latest version of Windows 11 anyway due to an [may not be disclosable] issue that needed addressing in driver, Windows itself, and BIOS having to do with device enumeration and UEFI. It will cause instability in Windows and other errors with VGA / Integrated Graphics on Ryzen 7000 / 8000.

As I understand it, this issue would have technically affected all AM5 boards. I am not sure how or which vendors applied the fix for this besides MSI.

Also, example of boards just getting support for full RTX 4000...

https://videocardz.com/newz/msi-releases-agesa-1-2-0-0-bios-for-amd-x670-b650-a620-improvements-for-ryzen-9000-cpus-and-geforce-rtx-40-gpus

I commented on this before somewhere else, too. Complaints to manufacturers do get addressed and looked into.

I expect that the fix has been put in May board updates for most motherboards.

Yas. Anyone with AM5 should be REGULARLY (monthly) checking their Motherboard support page for BIOS updates.

AM4 took about 3 years to receive stable BIOS revisions for some systems, like mine, so anyone with AM5 should be really taking note of BIOS revisions and failures as I had to even re-flash my BIOS at times on the new AM4 Ryzen gen 1 series.

I have exact same problem as yours, can you explain a little bit more about the solution pls I have no idea how to do it.

power supply, brand/model/age?

often the cause of gpu diver crash, weak or overrated psu cant give the gpu what it needs or clean enough, and crashes the driver

It’s silverstone 850w gold, i just built it for about a week (ryzen7.7700x, 4070super ram corsair ddr5 5600, it only crash on valorant once a day when alt tab but I don't think that the reason bc after I looking for the solution on reddit they told me try to disable fast start up, It’s gone for a day but I’m still not 100% sure yet (additional info: my nvidia OpenGL event id 2 is a little bit different it say ran out of memory, but when I open task manager their are more than 20 GB available.) is it some kind of conflict?

Sorry for my broken English, It's not my first language.

And my gpu driver is the latest version
smokerob79 26 SEP 2024 a las 11:40 p. m.
uninstall the adrenaline software from AMD and then reinstall the latest chip driver without adrenaline.....its the built in AMD GPU drivers messing with Nvidia drivers......dont worry about your PSU...its not your issue.....
