NVIDIA GPU ISN'T WORKING
Hello.

I just realised that my laptop (it's a Lenovo ideapad gaming 3) has been using the Intel card instead of the Nvidia card. Whenever I play any game, my Intel card is mostly doing all the work instead of the Nvidia one. I opened the task manager and checked the performance of the 2 cards, and the Intel one does almost 40% of the work while the Nivida one does less than 20%.

I already updated all my drivers, tried to force my laptop to use the High-performance Nvidia GPU (from the Nvidia control panel), forced my games to work on Nvidia but my Intel card keeps doing almost all the work. I even accessed the BIOS to change the graphic cards from there but I couldn't find any option to do it.

How do I force my laptop to use only the Nvidia gpu?

You said you used task manager to check gpu usage. Does that mean you alt tab out of a game to check it or are you running the game in windowed mode? Because alt tabbing out of a game to check task manager would not work.
incorrect. that does work.

You have to look at task manager while the game is open. Alt tabbing out of a game causes the gpu usage to change instantly.

And task manager is often wrong. Its better to use something like msi afterburner or similar to see gpu usage in the game.

nvidia container shows exactly what games is running on the dedicated gpu. even when alt tabbing out of them. gpu load should appear in task manager too but, as i rarely use windows 10 and it is not in windows 7 or 8.1 i am not sure.

that works and doesn't work depending on your windows settings by default it should put a app into a standby mode whenever a new window instance is started this can be changed in windows but usually should be left on for better multitasking performance

so yeah the only way to correctly read temps is through onscreen monitoring software like msi afterburner osd or putting it on a second display/mini display

also nvidia and amd have their own performance metrics option in their overlay usually like msi aftherburner more because i can see if it actually is using directx or any other api amd now can check that aswel however it just ain't as reliable it most of the times sees nothing

that is due to having a performance log so you can read it back
no, it happens in realtime.

if you want to believe that then you have it set to off without being aware of it

you can test it yourself with programs that use significant resources and having your task manager open by default you should see that if they are in the background most of them that follow microsoft rules have a standby mode were they use less resources poorly written applications do not respect or even have it in the first place

pc's are too strong these days to notice when a app awakens again visually from a non active state but back then the app could become unresponsive then work after a second or 2 or the app window is completely white/black then works after a few seconds
for a few seconds, the resource use remains visible in task manager. though the app starts to use less resources when minimised, switching into task manager quickly enough enables the resource use to be seen. i have done that multiple times.

by the time your in task manager and on the performance page the information is already not accurate anymore state changes in the gpu/cpu are not second based the performance logs are milisecond based you are not humanly able to switch that fast as it updates

your only bet is to run task manager during the game and then use ctrl+shift+esc to show task manager again

but why are we arguing about the task manager when better solutions like nvidia/amd performance logging and msi aftherburner are far more reliable options and also have way more information then task manager has

I don't see a single mention of the performance. Are you expecting the gpu to be at 100% at all times? igpu is likely handling the basic stuff, dedicated gpu is likely handling the proper demands.

What game?
What fps?
Are the frames dropping when the cpu or gpu are getting hot?

Information is helpful to see the gpu use vs the performance received.
