CD/DVD/Blu-ray/floppy?
Is it SATA, PATA or USB?
Did it used to work and it just randomly stopped? Drives fail, have you tested it in another machine? If you have the same problem in a second machine it might indicate the drive has failed and needs to be replaced.
it may just be a bad sata cable
Check the drive info in the BIOS it may be something as simple as changing the boot order.
If you are not comfortable with changing settings in the BIOS get help from a friend.
Best of luck.
pata master/slave/cable select jumper settings were to select the channel on the controller for the drive
only one master and one slave on a cable
40pin needed to use master and slave jumper, 80pin use cable select
if 2 drives were set to master or slave, then they would conflict and not be seen by bios
a single drive can be master slave or cable select with no problems
I think the problem with the one I had was that it was not sitting completely flat.
I did have this exact same problem....and I remember fixing it, and what I did was swap out one of the sata cables for another one that was in my psu bag that holds extra cables from the box.
I also had to dust the absolute crap out of it. Then it worked. But it still sometimes, would randomly stop working.
Have you tried different programs to test to see if you can write info to a disk and then check to see if it will load said info when you press the button to eject the drive and then press it back in.
There's something called Alcohol 120%, for disk media, which a lot of people swear by. You could give that a go
If you have an unused sata cable, I would try that first and then dust the area out if it needs it
Also a good indicator of an optical drive going bad, is if you write music to it and upon playback in a CD player, it sounds terrible or muffled
in a slot or bay
try re-seating it
Swap which drivers? Can you explain this?
