Windows enabled enhanced pointer precision on it's own.
I was in the middle of a game and noticed my mouse was suddenly very un responsive. After some looking into the problem I discovered the problem was "enhanced pointer precision" was ticked in the mouse settings.

As soon as I unticked the box my mouse was back to normal. Does anyone know why it might of turned on by itself?

I know what the setting is for, I researched it. I'm just puzzled why it turned on.

probably due to plugging the mouse into a different usb port
or windows update, or changing driver for something
Neo 9 ABR 2024 a las 13:31
I didn't unplug the mouse. Also didn't change the driver. I suppose it could of been windows update.

It's never happened before until this evening.

Modern Windows simply changes ♥♥♥♥ but theres also the possibility it reverted due to file corruption (Windows uses a file system from 1993) and since it couldn't read your setting it simply defaulted.

mouse properties have nothing to do with the file system itself

Where do you think the data for its setting its stored? Do you think the computer writes it on a piece of paper?

If you don't know how computers work what are you doing in this thread?

Does your mouse need to be above a certain DPI or if you use fast wrist movements or something?

I swear i don't notice any difference between having it on or off

With it on, it's very noticeable for me in games, especially in MOBA type games. It's like dragging the mouse through sticky tar. Without that setting it's very free moving and more down to muscle memory.

I mean some people might prefer it, but for me it's the difference between night and day for gaming and faster reactions.

yes its on the drive somewhere, in wherever windows registry settings are saved

if random things were always getting changed you would have much bigger problems

or if the drive format table was corrupted, it would not boot

Again, making it clear you simply don't know how computers work.

Things are getting corrupt all the time, modern drives have a lot more robust features than they used to to help correct issues but once too many accumulate then theres nothing it can do any more.

Why do you think people suddenly can't boot? Why do you think power outages can cause data loss? Why do you need sfc /sannow? Why do you think you need Steams's verify game cache?

Its because NTFS has ZERO features to protect data integrity and is a wicked flimsy file system by standards of 15 years ago, let alone today.

Also using the words "drive format table" tells me you know LITERALLY NOTHING about computers as there is no such thing by that name.

So again, what are you doing here?

those are not corruptions due to the drive or file structure
its due to losing power when writing data, there is not cure for that at all

What I did notice after fixing this, upon loading up various games like Skyrim and Cyberpunk 2077 it had also set the mouse sensitivity to very low in those games too. So my characters could only look around up and down left and right very slowly. I had to adjust the settings in each game back to the normal values, an easy fix but annoying all the same.

So whatever caused windows to default the mouse settings, it seems to have also carried on to my games.

Lol, thanks for letting us know again that you know nothing.

NTFS writes to a file and power goes out meaning the file gets corrupted. That doesn't happen on modern file systems as CoW file systems don't overwrite the file immediately.

If such an event took place with a CoW file system there wouldn't be any corruption, it would just be like it was before writing took place.

Please stop trying to defend a system you don't understand.

Windows stopped pretending long ago.

They monitor and remotely administrate and change whatever they hell they want whenever they want. Anyone who accepted the free "upgrade" is a fool.

If you're still on 10, make sure to disable TPM in the bios, and disable updates with gpedit.

Auto updates? Disable. All updates? You'd be a clown to do that. You need security/bug fix updates, and you literally need updates to support newer CPUs properly.
Neo 22 ABR 2024 a las 1:28
I'm using windows 11. I'm not going to stop updates just because of a minor weird bug which happened once.

Over all windows 11 seems like a pretty solid OS.
