all that stuff that was released (games, programs, ect..) and have stopped developing, will not stop working (ie... your words, "all windows software ever released", I'll ignore the false statement about require 10 and will never run on 7... lol), only the new garbage they make now, but we will ignore games still being released and supporting win 7, games still being developed and supporting win 7... while showing the steam notification (for games only on steam) saying steam dropped win 7 support.
majority of games that "don't" run on win 7 are microsoft/xbox games, with maybe a handful or 2 that arent, with a tiny fraction of that being a random few currently being developed games losing support due to engines, most due to os checks, runtimes/dx 12.2 or higher, or engines that dropped support.
we are talking what.... less than 50 games that dont run (ignoring some or all can be made to run)?
(don't feel like checking into it)
out of 20 thousand or so games for pc in total since PC became a thing? :cq_lol:
as for steam or other areas with launchers that might stop working, people may find legacy support or simply run older versions of said program that do work.
not to mention other devices outside of pc from windows, ignoring other non windows os's exist and can or can be made, to run windows software.
btw, telling people "you won't be able to play it ever again, if you don't upgrade", while knowing full well that workarounds and fixes exist, is dishonest, misleading and shows your intentions.
with all that said... clearing up the scaremongering misinformation regularly posted by some..
______________
win 7 has literal 10's of thousands just here on steam that will continue to work unless steam/valve closes down (assuming the "steam said they will remove all steam drm if they ever shutdown" thing is true).
not including all the other store fronts/platforms and.... all the physical (disk) game collections we built over the years from older up to win 7/8/8.1, will continue working likely forever, rare circumstances depending.
this goes for all the older os's as well, you don't need a new os (or hardware for that matter) to run something that currently runs on and won't stop running, so anyone telling you otherwise isn't being truthful.
currently running (was dual booting 7/11) win 11 (it's ok, but ain't better than 7) and have used/tried/messed with, own and used on its intended hardware (behind on hardware for current), dos upto win 11 (meaning I have used 7 since it released, used it upto last year sometime before I finally uninstalled it) and know it's still the best to date), excluding a couple in the line up I didn't use (3 or so), that were wildly regarded as worse than garbage (used a few that were only slightly worse than garbage like vista and win 8).
i can still install and use all those os's from dos and up, some might be a bit more difficult than others to find driver, ect... assuming you don't already have them handy.
on the off chance.. some helpful info from me, for anyone viewing this thread in the future, have a nice day
Lol. Just kidding, there's a lot of older software and games that don't work properly or at all on Windows 11 and need workarounds to work, even games released for Windows 7 required tweaking to work without crashes or other problems just on Windows 10 like Fallout 3 and New Vegas.
but like you said, workarounds help, though the truely stubborn ones take more work lol.
I personally haven't had any games have issues running on win 11 yet, though not everyone plays the same games as well, so I may have not ran into some because of that.
You'll find a lot more software that won't work on Windows 10 and 11 the further back in time you go.
not just my stuff, but all the pc's/laptops I was given or bought for dirt cheap that were "broken" or actually broken, which I used to fix, clean and sell, needless to say, but.. the pile never really got smaller as I kept collecting more and more.. lol.
though with that said, most of that older stuff isn't as useful anymore, just fun to mess with
11 is rotten to the core, i'd rather use 10 while iot ltsc is still supported. there's another option too but i'm not gonna be that guy anymore
This was so high ball I cant resist to hit it down. :P

or it is another service. Just disable it from msconfig...
