That subreddit has been proven to create and share false information many times over, nothing about that subreddit can be trust at all.
In the case of the link you provided, that has been proven to be false information, the person who created it purposely did not show everything Steam was actually doing. Tried to post on that subreddit what was actually happening and one of the moderators of that subreddit removed it.
The fact is Steam looks at far more information than EGS does, you can see it here in this post. Steam scans other store clients like GOG Galaxy and EGS, it looks at games installed by those clients, looks at things like Spotify, and other software that has nothing to do with Steam at all, even software that isn't even currently running.

they are on the same level ,)
and yes epic is not a spyware , nor steam, it's just that both launcher have some 2 kinds of customers ( us who bought the games, and the other who place their games on their store ) and both are too curious about your activites and what you're doing on your comp ...

If there is a reason to treat EGS like spyware, then there is a lot more reasons to treat Steam like spyware and should be avoided at all costs.
EAC isn't spyware either.
Except it objectively doesn't make pc gaming worse at all, it objectively makes it better because having real competition is a good thing.
Im not sure this is bad for Developers. Both company do his bad things, but this is how bussiness work. Epic made exclusives, Valve cut 30% of everything. Developers can decide what platform they choose with it favor and drawback.
