.
Yeah.. Good luck with that as this one will never happen. They did freak out when the WinXP source code was leaked as it can be a nightmare for security (even for those on the much newer OSes) and also different partners that do have a copyright license on their borrowed code.
If you plan on playing a game like Silent Hunter 3. Just go buy UBoat instead.
Almost went clinically insane trying to mod SH3 on Linux. lmao
I ended up succeeding, But, I'm not sure that amount of effort will be worth it for everyone.
just may be curious , but let's talk about your way of playing games would you ?
like are you using mods the first time you play a game ? and why ? or are you adding mods after you finished a first playtrought ?
for my case, i rarelly use mods , except some rare exception like some game i've finished and wanted to add some features like :
https://store.steampowered.com/app/200710/Torchlight_II/
and the mods available here on the workshop
https://steamcommunity.com/app/200710/workshop/
and usually i rarelly , if not never, add some 'graphical' mods but i can understand that people like to use some of them
in fact , despite i've published some of them here in form of news , i rarelly use them ... mostly i used some , for the case of torchlight after a full playtrought.
Also, I own SH3 since it has been released.
Edit: I usually play vanilla first, unless there is some REAL go-to mod. Sometimes the community out-do the devs.
I also can go extreme like in World of Warcraft where I used around 100 addons (mod), true I played WoW for extreme unhealthy long time (for 15 years with around 3 year played time).
First playthrough - mods that fix only basic functionality like missing 21:9 support
Second and onwards that's where I feel more comfortable with mods. seeing how I could make the experience for myself better
interresting answers for all of you atm.
it seems we have differents point of view about mods and what to expect for them :
- qol
- content added
- graphical update more or less like @Lixire pointed
- fixing bugs
but beware about bugs fixing, because it not mandatory will happen in your first playtrought ...
anyway all your answers are interresting
i guess the game in which i used the most mods was quake , because i used so many mods that i do not have any fingers on both hands to count them and sadly i just remember some of them ( do not age ) xd
reaction quake, twcreeper ( the best ctf i ever played in all my current life ),....
Also I often use SweetFX/ReShade esspecialy in older games to made them more sharp, vibrant/colorful and SMAA or even HDR.
About QoL Mods: not once I noticed that Devs often made a game QoL based on some popular Mod. In other times Devs dont need to worry to add a QoL for a game because there is a mod for that so they can focus on bugfixing and content. Overall games and Devs benefit alot from mods.
reshade is universal mod that allows you to add post procesing techniques in the games which I do sometimes.
It depends on the game
today something funny and it will explain you why you need to dig news yourself and not just be happy reading web site xd
