It's over and done with: no more updating Windows 7 at all ever again from any source. You'll just have to accept it and move on with life.

In reference to that "program": UpdatePack7 is not a "tool", it's a placebo pill to let people who don't know better think that they updated their operating system.

Nothing will ever update Windows 7 again. Not from Microsoft. Not from 3rd party programs. NOTHING.

Newer hardware doesn't really support it anymore, you can get 7 running on a system based on LGA1700/AM5 (no clue about 1851 as I didn't look into) but driver support can prove to be challenging. GPU drivers? you are limited to the RTX 30 series or RX 6000 series with old drivers. while the 3090Ti/RX 6950XT are great cards today. that will be a problem later on with no custom drivers on sight as both NVIDIA and AMD target 10 1803 minimum while Intel ARC does aim at 21H2 or so

New games is also an issue due to DX12 being required in a large number of them. while 7 can use DX12, it only does at the lowest feature level of 11_0 and DXVK won't really save on the older OS as the GPU drivers are limited to very old versions of Vulkan
Application support? that one is also disappearing, especially after CEF 110+ has largely became the standard for web based stuff and QT6/Windows SDK aim at 10 1809 minimum

I constantly see that "performance and stability" yet can't relate to it at the slightest when I had to upgrade from XP to 7 back in 2011. if anything, 7 was what sparked my annoyance with Windows
Using legacy versions of proprietary software that runs on Windows but doesn't run on Linux. VM is the solution.
The reason I picked 7 is because of the system resources it requires.
Same story with XP if your software is supported there.

A year ago I was looking for software that could make Video RAM work like RAMDisk. Oh well I found one that supports Windows 7 and newer versions.
It's pretty useful if you want to share RAM resources to a second computer and use them as swap if you have a good network.

So far, my main system is on 7800X3D/3080/64GB DDR5 running 11 24H2. so running XP or 7 is basically worthless on my use case due to 0 driver support but also everything I do on my PC more or less requires me to be on the newer builds of Win10 minimum

I don't think I have any Win7 system at home anymore. like even my rig for old games runs XP despite being very capable Win7 machine (E8400+GTX260) as I feel like the compatibility is basically from my personal experience "if it runs on Vista, it will run on 11 too"
Most of the old software I did experience breaking did so while moving from XP to Vista due to the massive overhaul in the Windows kernel, very rarely 7 to 11.

I mentioned this in my own thread but since this is here...

Got kicked off Paramount+, Netflix and Hulu for having an "outdated" computer. (And presumably it would be the same with Amazon Prime, Disney+, etc.) As if streaming data is simply impossible on my PC. Then what has it been doing for 11 years?!

I'm not going to change computers just to pay to watch stuff.

Various websites instantly reject me. RIGHT AFTER SHOWING ME THE SITE WORKING 100%. Like, it literally shows me the article I'm about to read, and then tells me Win7 doesn't work. BS.

Darkest timeline. Total dystopia.
This goes right along with a comment I recently wrote in this thread: It is your choice. You choose to remain on Windows 7. And as you are finding out that choice has consequences. By remaining on Windows 7 you are preventing yourself from accessing many things that are online on the internet only because you still use Windows 7. More and more companies and services will start to detect your operating system version and then refuse to work when you try to access them as time goes on. You shouldn't be upset at the companies for doing this. It's you that are causing the situation, not them.
I don't owe these companies ANYTHING. They can't tell me what browser or OS to use.

We've gone from "the customer is always right" to "do what we say peon!"

These sites are adding unnecessary rules and requirements. Case in point: Netflix previews will play when I go to their site. But when I TRY TO GIVE THEM MONEY they're like "nah, you have windows 7."

That's like if I tried to get gas and they were like, "sorry, your car is too old. It's not compatible with this new gas." It's the same gas. Nothing changed. Except their policy.

I want to keep this computer on Windows 7 because I'm a preservationist. I have a number of old comps around. XP, 98, 95, and Vista.

Win 10/11 offers me nothing. Linux is a pain. I shouldn't have to do anything to make things that already work... work.

You admitted (again for the second time now) that you committed illegal software piracy by installing Microsoft ESU updates in Windows 7. *golfclap* good job.

Why are you just now responding to something that I wrote 3 weeks ago? That's very weird.

yeah no mate, if you're having problems with linux it is you not learning the small lessons you need to learn. you can't expect it to function exactly like windows does. no matter how close the desktop experience feels. tools like Proton, WINE and Lutris are things you will have to learn how to use if you want your obscure windows apps to work. do you think you need things like Photoshop? you don't, use alternatives. theres a lot of ways you may think is logical around certain barriers that just, don't make sense in the end. sticking to it and asking for help online is the answer. and leads to a computing experience better than any other. as long as you avoid Anything with Ubuntu in its name or as its base. that's ran by Microsoft's little cousin Canonical. and we don't like them.
