They did mention in the message that the launcher will work without any updates or support. so either at some point the official launcher won't offer you the latest version of the game or the sign in function might break.
To be honest, It's not really an issue as most people use an unofficial launcher instead even on Windows 10 and 11
Also there are some Windows games that just will not run in Linux no matter how much faffing about with settings, or proton, or wine, or whatever. They just don't run. If you encounter one of those games while using Linux then you just don't get to play it and there's nothing you can do about it.
the updates do exist, they can be found and downloaded from the Microsoft catalog site.
embedded (posready), server 2008, etc.. all run the same kernel base as win 7 (nt 6.1), thus they all work on win 7, or the others that were mentioned.
not to mention, when it comes to "security" it's all the same, the only difference in them being specified for different versions is because they have other fluff for each version, but as said these are specifically security updates.
stop making claims you can't be bothered to test and prove or not prove, if they do or don't work.
have a nice day
Already answered. Keeping Windows 7 and the Steam client running are of interest to me and I wouldn't want to run Windows unless is was reasonably secure. Nothing is perfect but we do what we can.
true, but as "secure" as Microsoft can, which isn't much
that said nothing's wrong with you trying to secure your OS and keep it useful for your purpose.
There are no new updates on the microsoft catalog website that says Windows 7 on them since last year. What everyone has been trying to tell you is exactly true: There ain't no new updates for win7.
No one has to "test or prove" anything. The updates don't say Windows 7. They ain't designed for Windows 7. It's literally right there in front of your face on the same website you talked about.
Microsoft can say all the words they want, but it doesn't mean a thing.
the updates are designed for nt 6.1 kernel base, thus they are for anything running that kernel, not to mention everything else I mentioned.
not going to bother with replies on the subject, facts are facts, end of story.
have a nice day
NOPE! That ain't how Windows works! Each update is designed specifically for a certain version of windows AND NO OTHER VERSION OF WINDOWS!.
Server updates are for Windows Server.
Windows Embedded 7 updates are for Windows Embedded 7.
Windows 7 updates are for Windows 7.
Server updates are not for Windows Embedded 7, and not for Windows 7.
Windows Embedded 7 updates are not for Windows Server, and not for windows 7.
Yep. You're right. The facts are printed right there on the microsoft catalog website. You're literally completely ignoring what the website says and installing the wrong thing in the wrong version of windows. Then you come into this steam thread and gloat about doing it wrong on purpose then try to tell other people to follow you and do that too.
There ain't no updates for Windows 7. There ain't gonna be any updates for Windows 7 ever again. You can't update Windows 7 because there ain't no updates released for Windows 7 to even install.
edit: on the comment below, I don't need more than one account and my writing style doesn't even come close to that other person's, sorry to tell ya.
I'll be ignoring your replies and not contributing to your agenda.
have a nice day
ya, I like watching some of his vids, has some good info.
ya they love those OS checks, but luckily those can be bypassed, as for anticheat, well... that's a whole other "can o worms"
Speaking of agendas: As long as you keep trying to convince people to install the wrong updates for Windows 7 I'll be right here to remind everyone how we ain't supposed to be doing that and debunk everything you say to that effect. Your agenda to mislead people about Windows 7 will not work here.
