I bought the doom2016 ost despite stupid reviews complaining it was "just mp3, not lostless" this day and age, boy does my deck play it good. people were saying they would pay 3x more for lossless audio:P3:

mp3 can be very, very good in high resolution, no problem.
Mick Gordon's tunes are full of white and pink noise anyway. ;-)

That has nothing about someone "Being an audiophile". That's actual technical specifications. MP3's are compressed. Lossless is not. Even the best compression is always going to have some sort of artifacts somewhere. This is true in JPEG's vs PNG's and MP3's vs lossless.

just thought this was relevant thinking maybe W7 could play it but lack of support and peoples need for better audio would mess it up, also it's on sale right now

Winamp can play all versions of FLAC, OGG, MP3, WAV, etc and is compatible with all versions of windows from Windows XP through Windows 11. I still use it in my Windows 10 and Windows 11 machines. The version of windows has nothing at all to do with being able to play any audio file in any format.

Im using foobar2000, but rarely. If I want to listen music then Im using youtube, depend what kind of music Im in mood.

Yeah, about my music, I don't look for new stuff, I have my collection and that's that. I don't listen as much as when I was young, and I have more than I can play in any 1 given hour (if that much). I killed radio and good riddance (in any format).

youtube mainly, but i have music downloaded in a variety of formats, including FLACs. and apart from my AXELF.MOD and the many Midis i have audio quality is basically irrelevant here.

yes but flac is a codec and like any other coded it has evolved a lot since the day of winamp xd

And unless you can update it under any old winamp release ( and i do not think you can ) , you can meet some artifacts while playing some new flac file.

Or may be are you using a codec pack like K-Lite for w10+
I still have winamp 3x somewhere in my hdd but i rarely use it and really prefer using xmplayer and mostly listen to some icecast or shootcast radio or even use mpc-hc for that.

Mpc-hc is more like a swiss kniff, as i also use it to lsten to some youtub/invidious song.
Talking about mpc-hc, i know @master construction can watch some yt video under mpb-be ( a little brother of mpc-hc ) but what ever i've tryed , i was not able to do it xd
