Problem with Ubuntu is that it has suffered the same issues that Windows has, its devs have been completely ignoring feedback and previously had included ads in the OS.

It’s best to avoid vanilla Ubuntu and any other distros that have fallen into the same habits as Microsoft
But Mint isnt Ubuntu based?

True about adobe but how many people are really using it ? really few ... and i am just talking about proffessional for the rest who are using it, well , they are just driving a ferrari in a sand road using 2% of it functions.
Well the problem that here lab result info (eg blood stuff) from hospital only available in pdf to download, so yeah that would be crap if I cant check it trough Linux.
hello

Do not worry on pdf as there is many tools that can open it like your browser or libreoffice.

You are wrong, again. This thread is about WINDOWS 7, Home, Pro, and Ultimate, the normal versions that 99% of people use. This thread is NOT about Windows server. This thread is NOT about Windows Embedded Standard 7. Those have absolutely nothing at all to do with anything in this thread. Discussing either of those two operating systems in this thread is completely off topic.

Windows 7 Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate (Build 7601) can all be updated using UpdatePack7. The current release is 2024.6.12 and I have used it myself on several Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate PCs.

Mint -IS- Ubuntu based.

Or should I say "Mint is BASED Ubuntu."

hehehe

LMDE is also an option but it's not on par with the regular Linux Mint yet. It's getting there, don't get me wrong, but I feel the regular release is a better option ATM.

But, by the time YOU make the switch, LMDE might become exactly what you are looking for.

Edit: LMDE stands for Linux Mint Debian Edition. As the name suggest, it is based upon pure Debian instead of Ubuntu. It's developped as a "backup" in case Ubuntu makes changes that turns into into a bad base.

Please, DONT confuse me much. The most scary thing to switch to Linux is this insane amount of version.
Finaly I decided that I go to regular Mint after Win7 (hopefuly fsr from now), so I stick with that.

LMDE is the same distro but it’s based on Debian instead of Ubuntu, which was based on Debian at one point

But it can use the same Cinnamon UI? Easy for move from Win7? I also would not use the command stuff there only if it realy necessary. Mint was very pleasing when I readed that you can do everything well trough the UI without commands.

Both LMDE and Mint mainly run on Cinnamon, the main benefit of LMDE over standard Mint is that LMDE will survive even if Ubuntu goes away

No problem. I just remember when once I tried to go deeper in Linux versions my head go dizzy. Im using Computers since 30+ year (If Enterprise 128 count), but while I always managed to solve any issue I faced I still stay a casual user.
Linux was always a mistery for me. I respected it power, but I always looked at it as the OS for high experts. However the Win10 (well it started with Win8) came what I refused to use. Over time everything I readed about these OSes hardened my decision. I wanted to stay on Win7 forever, I belived it possible. Now I know it is not possible, so I started looking on Linux, because more and more place I read how it turned to user friendly environment as also Steam help with games able to play on Linux.
One thing I know because of my stubborness that I rather go live in a forest alone than switch to Win10, so my future is Linux even I scared to switch as also Im lazy and dont like new things much.

Funny enough, Linux nowadays is almost easier to use than Windows. Especially distros like Linux Mint.

The only moment where Linux might become a bit more complicated is if you run into issues. Which is kinda rare with stable distros like Mint. So, I wouldn't stress too much over it.

When that happens, the Mint community is, overall, very welcoming and helpful. So, again, don't stress too much over it.

Yeah there's generally more support in the Linux community because it's mostly community led, rather than managed by a singular massive corporation, people kind of have to be helpful for things to work out
i tried linux back in 2007, because someone brought some discs with linux to me.
linux is not "easier" than windows. that's just hilarious and i use a few flavors of linux daily. it has come a long way the past decade, but we're still a long ways from the "year of the linux desktop".

one example out of many: compare the difficulty of setting up dolby atmos on windows vs your linux distro of choice.

community controlled things have their own set of issues also. end of the day, i want my tool to be the best for that job. for cutting edge gaming, utilizing the latest hardware and VR stuff, that's objectively windows.
