Z97-K M.2 not visible
Been playing around with an older board of mine with a 4770k, works great but for whatever reason it doesn't see any form of M.2 drive in the BIOS (despite being able to see it in Win10). Played around with every possible BIOS setting, different drives, etc, nothing got it to detect the drive in the BIOS and therefore will not boot from it.

Tried updating and rolling back the BIOS to no avail, honestly just thinking the board is the problem at this point but would still love to have something for a friend who doesn't have a PC at the moment.

Disable Sata ports 5 & 6

See manual, chapter 1 page 16

Is it set to auto detect or [M2} - any change with wither settings.

M2 drives with Z97 could be flaky. It might be that a regular sata drive would be fine for games. My Z97 system sttill plays many non modern AA titles just fine with 4790K at stock, 16GB RAM and 3.5" sata SSD drives.

Tried both settings and neither worked, which is weird that windows is still able to see it regardless if the BIOS doesn't

It just means Windows has an NVMe driver, and your UEFI doesn't. It was pretty common for Z97 boards, since NVMe was still a new technology at the time.

it should be able to boot to it,
looks like you need to set bios to m.2 mode instead of auto/sata

and maybe enable raid, with jbod no drive in raid config

what kind of m.2 drive is it?
looks like it only supports nvme (pci-e, m key) not b+m or m.2 sata drives

Sorry I was thinking of a different board.

Enable AHCI Mode for ALL SATA Ports.
Set SATA 5/6 Ports to M2 Mode. This will force disable of SATA 5/6 ports.
DO NOT use the #5/6 physical SATA Ports when M2 Drive is present.

Then also change the following...
> PCIE NAND Configuration = Enabled
> Anti Surge Support = Disabled (this has been known to cause random issues)
> Legacy USB Support = Enabled
> Intel xHCI Mode = Enabled
> EHCI Hand-off = Enabled
> Launch CSM = Enabled
> Boot Devices Control > [UEFI and Legacy OPROM]

If installing OS to M2 Drive, set the M2 as the only available boot device; then save & exit, re-enter the BIOS, plug in your OS installer USB media drive, double click the USB UEFI option to do a one-time-boot to that USB drive to start the OS installation process. When the OS installer reboots it should boot directly to M2 now.
update bios

^ This but it's an old board; it should've already been up to date.

intel 4 series CPUs did NOT support M.2 native....the only hope you have of using it as a boot drive is finding the M.2 driver and installing it like it was a RAID driver in windows installer when you first install windows itself....

What board revision is your board and what M.2 SSD are you trying to use?
CPU-Z should be able to tell you what revision it is, if you cant see it on the board itself

z97 boards with a m.2 m key slot for nvme ssd

when installing windows you would need ot use the raid/ahci/sata driver from usb
