Laptops with RTX 2050

Why are Manufacturers building Laptops around this crap Graphics Card?. I mean yes its for basic gaming and photo's.

However its to slow for ray-tracing and future gaming.

Well, a couple of years ago, I was in the market for a decent gaming laptop, I'd ignored any laptop with iGPU and lower range RTX 2050/3050, even ignored those with RTX 2060/3060. I had my mind set on a laptop with an RTX3070 or RX6800M.

I chose a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro with an RTX 3070 140W which is actually capable of a good gaming experience on a majority of games (even at 2560x1600, native res of my laptop screen), IF gaming chops is a must have in a laptop, an RTX x060 class GPU is the bare minimum.

xx50 sku chips have a pretty low T.D.P. of just 30-45 watts. That's not a reason to choose a 2050 specifically over the newer models, but battery life is a consideration on laptops, as are thermals, so it's enough reason not to go further up the stack in a given generation, since xx60 cards start at 45 watts, possibly going up to 60.


Also, the RTX 2050 matches A.M.D's. 780m I.G.P.U., which are A.M.D's. top tier integrated graphics used in the 8700g. That means it'll beat the 760m or a 740m further down A.M.D's. I.G.P.U. stack.

One of the disappointing aspects of the 8000 series A.P.U. is that the balance between processing power and I.G.P.U. power isn't particularly good. General impressions is that it is way too heavy on the processor side for the calibur of I.G.P.U. included. If the 2050 is cheap enough, a laptop manufacturer might elect to go with a two chip design that uses a weaker C.P.U. to either decrease cost and/or increase profit margins, while offering satisfactory graphical performance to the customer.

Of course, one of the things we don't know about laptops is the component level price, so I have no idea of knowing if that's actually the case or not. Also, more casual purchasers might just assume that a discrete G.P.U. beats any I.G.P.U. without cross-referencing with benchmarks.

Does A.M.D. even make discrete chips for laptops anymore? Has intel started? If the answer to both of those questions is no, then it may be a marketing ploy.

Plus, not everybody cares about Ray Tracing, especially when they're just looking at entry level products, so that aspect isn't really worth consideration.

Laptops are always lower tiered CPUs and GPUs compared to Desktop so basically a Laptop needs to have something like an i7 (non U model) and at least RTX xx70 or better to be a decent enough gaming laptop where the raw performance can have it possibly last many years. Since you can't upgrade the cpu or gpu you need to be smarter about such a purchase.

Just bought my brother a ASUS TUF with a 7th gen Ryzen and a 2050 in, he only wanted it for some emulator use and media consumption while at work so it works really well for him.

I'm going to be honest, when I bought it, I though it had a 4050 in.

Always find and research the exact model before you buy. If it released before 2023, don't buy it.
