I think I have a memory leak?
Hardware:
CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
GPU - AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT
RAM - Corsair 32GB DDR5 (x2)
Storage - WD Black SN850X 4TB SSD
Motherboard - MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk WiFi
Power Supply - Corsair RM850e
Operating System - Windows 11
Monitors - ASUS TUF Gaming 1080p, 165Hz (x2)

Over the course of 3-4 days my Memory fills up to 99%. It goes back down to it's normal amount (10-13%) after resetting. I updated my BIOS, chipset, VGA, Audio, and LAN drivers using the MSI website for my specific motherboard. All other drivers installed came from what AMD Adrenaline recommended to me.

I read online that memory leaks usually come from drivers, but I've reinstalled all of them twice. At this point I'm not sure if there's another issue altogether, or if I'm maybe missing necessary drivers? I ran the Windows diagnostic tool and it found no issues, so I don't think it's the operating system.

If anyone has any recommendations I would love some advice. I just rebuilt this PC with a new Mobo, power supply, and case due to other reasons. I had the memory issue before, but I figure I should try to hammer this out since I just rebuilt it anyway.

If this is the wrong place for this type of question, sorry!

Edit: Whatever is sucking up the RAM isn't being shown in the TM or Resource Monitor

its software that has memory leaks
where it allocates ram and does not free it

check task manager to see what is allocating ram

Sorry, I'll edit the original post because I forgot to mention it. Wherever the RAM is going isn't being shown on the TM

Are you allowing the PC to go idle at some points for length periods; an SSD TRIM can use up ALL your RAM when it does that process; but then it should get freed up once it is done that process.

If Task Manager does not seem clear on whats doing, then look at Resource Monitor instead.

Try a clean startup to see if that solves it; as a means to startup the OS, still in normal running mode; but without 3rd party apps/services running; as a means to rule out faulty software/service. Use MSCONFIG for that.

I'm not sure if it counts as idling, but I put my computer to sleep while at work/school and turn it on when I get home. On a normal day it's probably running for 5-6 hours and asleep for the rest of the day.

I didn't see anything abnormal in the Resource Monitor, but I could be looking in the wrong place.

Don't use Sleep Mode or Hibernate in WinOS, period. Disable that.
Turn the PC off.

Got it, I'll start shutting it off at night. Out of curiosity, does using Sleep mode cause weird issues like this? That seems like a massive oversite

I don't get what MS is thinking or doing these days; for most WinOS PC users, Sleep Mode has not worked properly ever since Win10 came out. It works OK for most Laptop users in most cases but most Desktop users I see are very frustrated that even in 2024 this issue is still a major problem yet to be fixed.

Try this though, as a simple test.
Put the PC into Sleep Mode. Wait about 90 secs or more, take it out of Sleep and see if the issue exists. Or if you see that it has this issue after coming out of Sleep Mode in the future, try right clicking StartMenu and selecting the Log Off option. Once it puts you back to the login screen, click your account and once at the Desktop go back to Task Manager and re-check it again and see.

i dont think sleep/hibernate ever worked properly

That makes a lot of sense. Before building this PC I used a laptop on Win10 (first computer) and never had any issues, but this memory leak has been plaguing me. It'll be amazing and slightly annoying if shutting down overnight fixes the issue.

Thanks for the help!

It's crazy that Microsoft owns the most popular operating system and sleep mode doesn't work

When I used Win7 on 4790K and FX850 I never had a problem using it.

I finally just stopped using it anyways because instead I would use a Downloader App in my web browser and queue up various files to download; and pause my game updates and such. Then when time for bed, go ahead and let the PC downloaded all that stuff while I'm sleeping and just switch the Power Profile to Balanced with Display Off Timer enabled and Sleep/Hibernate all disabled so that once the downloads where done, the CPU / GPU would be running at very low idle clocks instead of how the CPU can sometimes run at full clocks when on High Performance mode.

My Ryzen 5500 Win11 system sleeps just fine.

Can you post a screenshot of Resource Monitor when your RAM is approaching full? Does your system grind to a halt when that happens?

You dont use a Killer Network Card by chance do you?

That aside, if whats using up your RAM isnt listed in the task manager its likely going to be a driver.

You can use something like the free version of Driver Booster from www.iobit.com to update most of your drivers/software or you can simply just pick what to update. As ive used it to fix an assortment of issues over the years including fixing the systems of friends, i stand by it.

Or if you choose you can get the Pro version by looking up keys on Youtube, these are promo and gift keys Not Cracked/Fake ones, all you need is a working key, so dont download anything from youtube.

"AMD Adrenaline" remove immediately and install only the drivers. You don't need this bloatware software to get the drivers.
