Why I love gaming on Linux. And why I moved away from Linux as a main OS again.
There is something wholesome and just freeing being able to help people.
Since the Lutris installers are outdated I did 2 guides for Lutris.

Games... some of them run flawlessly under Linux and don't on Windows.

All Unreal 4 engine games run superior under Linux, no shader or load stutter at all.
GTA IV runs 4x faster on my system on Linux.

After that though... ?

I installed and activated Windows 10 LTSC.

It’s like being on Windows 7 again, everything is gone, only this pre-installed is Edge which you are ALLOWED to fricken uninstall!

Example: https://old.reddit.com/r/NobaraProject/comments/1cpppdt/nobara_39_kde_update_error/
https://old.reddit.com/r/NobaraProject/comments/1cp9fsh/nob_39_kde_can_no_longer_do_updates/

KDE on very rare occasions will crash, though it only ever happened twice and seemed random enough to not be a bother to me.

I cannot scale lower than native resolution in any game, so old games that run below 2560x1440 will have insane mouse input lag, and the mouse cursor will not line up with the options on screen (all games).

The upside to using Windows again.

MSI Afterburner. Huh? we have Mangohud. We do! but Mangohud disappears if it is not a DXVK title.
Plus the fact you HAVEemphasized text** to fricken force Anistrophic filtering because the in game option is ignored.

Some games flat out run faster on Windows, but not enough to really matter. Although I stopped playing CS2, I did try it on Nobara, it was terrible. It frequently dropped to 115fps from 400, whereas on Windows 10 LTSC it never goes below 270 FPS.

Windows 10 LTSC is stable, it’s rock like. It is bare bones Windows just with Edge…

Windows 10 LTSC is essentially the real Windows 10 Professional.

It ♥♥♥♥♥ on Windows 11 for speed, but Nobara was not slow, it’s about a tie from my user experience.

I can now install games “as is” although using Lutris etc is a great way to get games going, it’s defeated by the simplicity of Windows.

The arguments I had to get me off Windows, the LTSC edition (Though a pain in the ass to get a license) Is like going back to Windows 7 for the first time… in a good way!

No MS store, no XBOX app ♥♥♥♥, no ads anywhere, no preinstalled bloat, nothing, just you and the Windows OS… that IMO may sway me back.

But we shall see.

I kept Nobara as a dual-boot system so I can run games that run like rubbish under Windows on Linux and enjoy the best of both worlds in the end.

GTA5 ran like poo for me on a GTX1650 computer with PopOS, it was choppy and FPS wasn't the best, Windows was better for me with that title, other games I've tried wasn't much different that running it on windows if the game worked on linux.

I gave a few Linux distros a try, I don't like Linux really for many different reasons.

I prefer windows, grew up on it on DOS days and Win 3.1. And them days are long gone, and I feel like typing things in the terminal makes it feel like the 90s again.

Wont say Windows is great, its not, Win 11 is well not great at all, but I know so much about the inner workings of windows, its hard for me to move onto something else as I will always need windows for something anyway.

Who you trying to convince bro?

Majority of people aren't gonna bother with installing a linux distro on their PC, only IT minded and tech savy people do that.

WIndows at this point is simply too large to fail, too many business , governments, all depend on their OS and the (legacy) software that runs on it.

I like steamOS, and i'm glad linux users can finally play some games now but let's not claim it's exactly a smooth experience either sometimes (proton versions, winetricks/protontricks config/ troubleshooting hell/ needing third party appications to install non steam games/..)

If it wasn't for gaming I'd be using MacOS instead of Windows. Gaming is literally the only reason I still use Windows.
