Will you be upgrading to ROG ally x?
I am not completely sold on the idea since its a price hike for little benefit and since Ive spent over 1.4k on one of them ( console day 1 @ 699, 2tb 2230, case, hard case, 5x 512gb msd ) and my other ally is stock. there is not enough detail yet I think, if you could just upgrade the ally v1 battery would be enough.

Wait for the Orange Pi Neo, it will cost much less and have similar specs. And I authored various parts of the OS and can thus vow for its quality and the guarantee it will become much better over time.

Nope, the only reason I have a Steam Deck to play PSO2 and FFXIV at work.

I bought an Ally in 2023, and I will wait for Ally 2 in 2025.

I wasn't going to, but the LTT review convinced me to get one, the extra USB 4 port instead of the XG Mobile and double + the battery life seems like everything I wanted from the original.

I agree that port was pretty redundant, the ally became an anchor with all the added stuff a external card linked to a wall socket, a battery pack made it seem less handheld. Its also a shame they did not go oled, screen is already great but would have reduced power draw a little.

Other than the Steam Deck, the GPD Win 3 and Win Mini are the only other decent handheld.

Mainly because they don't put the controls upside down like perverts.

It really amazes me how narrow some views in here can be. I am outside most of the time and have very little free time. Therefore a desktop is a waste of money in my opinion as I can not use it. Devices such as Steam Deck has brought back gaming to many busy people's lives. It's really unfair to dismiss them for such silly reasons. Please think twice before commenting.

Not really, the battery upgrade is very welcome indeed but the hardware itself hasn't really changed that much and so far. the Steam Deck is doing everything I need it to

Ive also spent alot of time tuning my main ally adding custom firmware to boost performance, i bet my main will still beat out the x in FPS. But i must also have it I think, its calling to me in black but they have not yet answered my questions, can it still take a 2230 as well as a 2280 i cba to clone or re download again rather just use my 2230 2tb.
honestly there is no need to pc hand held gaming, i use a really nice tablet to mobile game and its much better then trying to run some janky over heating device just to play a pc game i can get better quality on with my desktop.

stick to tablets for mobile gaming its way better life and most tablets have far surpassed development in the past 10 years.

if you really want to mobile game get a laptop. i feel bad for everyone who buys a handheld pc today, its going to be outdated in record time.

The biggest upgrade would be if Microsoft had a Windows 11 Lite edition, which would be amazing for battery life and performance.
orange pi neo looks pretty good at 499. hope it has more than 1 year warranty tho
