Futureproof GPU: Is this gonna blow up my CPU?
Hi all. So, currently have a 5 3600 and an RX 570 8GB, 750w PSU, 1080p. Built it with the headroom to upgrade the GPU a few years back, but I'm only looking at it now as the prices were so mental.
My dilemma is just how far can I go in terms having a GPU I can use in to the future, where I am primarily playing Strategy titles with some Red dead thrown in, without the 3600 exploding? I'm planning on a new build on to AM5, or whatever is out then, so I'm keen to get a GPU which is going to have some beef to it so I can look at moving up to 1440p at that time.
Currently I'm seeing the options as a 7700xt for £400, 7800xt for £480, or even a 7900 gre for £540.
Using the bottleneck calculator on PC Builds, it calculated a 17.3% bottleneck (unsurprisingly) for the 7900.
My question is, would such a bottleneck cause any issues beyond capping the performance? I was thinking in such a case I would just cap the FPS to stop the CPU burning itself to death. How would you approach this, and what would you do in my situation, where the primary aim is to select a GPU I can keep for a good number of years?

Cheers all!

Where did you get the idea that your CPU can get damaged from having a better GPU? If you have cooling problems, sort them out.

With that CPU and PSU you'd be fine even with a 3080 Ti, no problem. As long as the GPU fits in your Case and your cooling is good enough.

IDK what crap people been reading where they think such a CPU is too weak and/or can't handle a decent GPU. It's not like you're talking about 3090 or 4090 here.

3060 in 2024 should be avoided though. As they are really only good for 1080p

I'd look at 3080, 4070 or AMD 7800 XT, 7900 GRE
