Need some info and advise on 6900xt and 7900xt GPUs?
I currently have a 6900xt and a 1440 170hz monitor. I want to upgrade to 4k gaming. I was told to try to use radeon super resolution. I did this and most games work, some wont apply this and some do have some stutters. So I thought about upgrading to a 7900xt. Not sure if a 7900xt will be any better. So anyone running a 6800xt or 7900xt in 4k gaming?

my specs
13700@5.3
32gb@6600mhz
msi 6900xt gaming trio
2tb m2
win 11

I have a 7900XTX what is slightly stronger than 7900XT and I do play at 4K.

- older games should play at 4K native no problem.
- If a game has a good FSR implementation you can use it to boost performance
- if a game doesn't have FSR or the implementation is bad you can either use Radeon Super Resolution from drivers level or Lossless Scaling app. Check what works better.

If you want to play at 4K and want to upgrade your GPU you may want to consider Nvidia for its DLSS. DLSS at 4K is like magic and pretty much free performance. So you can have 4K visuals with 1440p performance. AMD really need to catch up with their FSR.

8000 series is coming this fall, should probably wait for that if you already have 6900 XT.

You can set your monitor to the more standardized 144hz, if capable.
But to run that in 4K, I would get the 7000 series from AMD.
Also an AMD CPU/MB not Eco-Intel crap.
Then you need to Optimize Bios, OS & Drivers for general gaming.

4K is laughable with AMD GPUs still.
Wait for RDNA 5 w/ Radeon 8xxx series.

I'm still waiting for AMD to make a good PC GPU, period.

So would a 4080 super run 4k well?

Generally yes but buying the 4080 super right now when 5080 is coming out soon is hard to recommend.

Green Team 4000 series, yes.

But I also advise against mixing brands, AMD/AMD, Intel/Intel/Nvidia (they actually had a partnership on compatibility resolution). Otherwise you're asking for double the troubleshooting trouble.

i have a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6900 XT and an XFX MERC310 RX 7900XTX, which according to TPU is 16% faster, and I do see a difference in performance in games that use elements of RT. For example, my RX 6900 XT had issues running Metro Exodus with RT maxed out at 3840x1080 (this was before AMD's Hyper RX and Fluid Motion) but the RX 7900 XTX was able to handle the game at that setting and resolution.

In terms of pure raster performance, the latter is still faster (obviously), so more games can be run at 4K, well optimized games like Doom and Doom Eternal will run flawlessly at 4K. Just don't expect to run Cyberpunk2077 at 4K with settings all maxed out including RT (though AMD Fluid Motion FG helps). Forget RT and I believe most games would run well enough at 4K.....

Of course, depending on the price diff, an RTX 4080 would be a very good alternative, but it can be quite expensive....

AMD Ryzen + NVIDIA GPU has never been a problem. Screw Intel and their ridiculous power usage. Most Gamers would never need more then what a 150-200$ Ryzen CPU can provide.

Never had an issue running intel with and. I prefer nvidea but they are out of mt price range. Good thing is they are going down in price. I would like to wait for the new cards but the past has not been good to me getting one as they usually sell out fast. It took me almost 10 weeks to get a 2070 super in back order. Im not in a super hurry .
