14900K.. are my temps normal?
Hi guys,
I wanna ask all 14900K owners here. I just built a new PC, I am using Be quiet Dark rock Elite air cooler. And even when using intel stock limits (253W for both PL1 and PL2) I reach 95c in Cinebench and sometimes even on lighter loads like 3DMark gpu test.

My idle temps are normal, on the desktop I get 28-34c and when just doing light stuff like browsing the web I don't go past 45c.
I didn't even play any games yet.. I am afraid that games will cause it also to reach 90c+.
Is this behaviour normal for this CPU with air cooler or my installation is not good?
I really don't want to go over the Dark Rock Elite installation all over again..

This is not my first time installing air cooler (or building a pc). This is the first time I encounter such temps... and it's scary LOL

Any insights would be welcome.

Sadly, entirely normal. The contact surface is not big enough to transfer enough thermal energy to make cooling this CPU properly possible.
So, no matter how good your cooler is, the CPU will thermal throttle.

the 14900ks run hot, i suggest just putting a global fps cap to your monitor's refresh rate and that wil keep it cooler
Thanks guys. Initially I thought that with 253W limit I would get normal temps with an air cooler (80c and below.. maybe jumps to 85..) , but I guess I was wrong. I am starting to regret my purchase :(
I upgraded from 11900K machine, and I had excellent temps on that.

idle temp is meaningless

max temp depends on cpu load and fan profile, and thermal paste and a few other things

as long as its not throttling its fine

Idle temp is not totally meaningless actually. Because if the cooler is not installed correctly, even idle temps will be very high, much more than normal.

at idle it should not be throttling at all, even with no cooler
idle temp across all systems is never the same, its meaningless to compare any of them
it depends more on ambient, cooler, and many other factors

if at load its throttling there is something wrong

Even with this monster, they couldn't cool a 13900k properly, and the situation did not improve with a 14900k.
OMG! I want to remove the Dark rock elite to check on the thermal paste, but I can't remove the top cover!! it's the one that is attached to the middle fan (not the magnetic one)
When you install it you push it down and there is a little click, there are 4 round things that hold it down but now I can't lift it... I am afraid I will break something.

Can any of you help?

sure, just move your setup to an industrial size freezer, and don't forget to wear a parka

huh? running any CPU without a cooler will eventually lead to a complete shutdown as the CPU tries to protect itself, so running a CPU without a cooler is just bad.

Unless I misinterpret your point there, if so please clarify it for me

No not normal my i9 14900k runs at max 80c to 85c while gaming.

29c during idle.
Last time I buy Be Quiet cooler I swear! I can't remove this thing.. it's ridiculus.
I ended up emailing Be Quiet support.. probably won't do any good.
I am stuck.
Now I'm no expert here, so please be gentle.

I have an i5 13600K and I've put an undervolt on it. It's a -100mV and it's a night and day difference. No real performance difference in the games I play, but I've got a 15-20c drop in temps.

You need a AIO to cool a i9 14900k

i linked a yt vid before with cpu running without a cooler just fine
any current cpu can run without a cooler, it will throttle to <800mhz and park cores to prevent it from overheating
it will only crash or shutdown with incorrect drivers
games may crash since they need things done in specific order
