14900K.. are my temps normal?
Hi guys,
I wanna ask all 14900K owners here. I just built a new PC, I am using Be quiet Dark rock Elite air cooler. And even when using intel stock limits (253W for both PL1 and PL2) I reach 95c in Cinebench and sometimes even on lighter loads like 3DMark gpu test.

My idle temps are normal, on the desktop I get 28-34c and when just doing light stuff like browsing the web I don't go past 45c.
I didn't even play any games yet.. I am afraid that games will cause it also to reach 90c+.
Is this behaviour normal for this CPU with air cooler or my installation is not good?
I really don't want to go over the Dark Rock Elite installation all over again..

This is not my first time installing air cooler (or building a pc). This is the first time I encounter such temps... and it's scary LOL

Any insights would be welcome.

huh? running any CPU without a cooler will eventually lead to a complete shutdown as the CPU tries to protect itself, so running a CPU without a cooler is just bad.

Unless I misinterpret your point there, if so please clarify it for me
i linked a yt vid before with cpu running without a cooler just fine
any current cpu can run without a cooler, it will throttle to <800mhz and park cores to prevent it from overheating
it will only crash or shutdown with incorrect drivers
games may crash since they need things done in specific order

Cool

Don’t see any YouTube links in your posts here.
Did you install the retention frame that replaces the factory latching mechanism? The factory one has a design flaw that clamps too much pressure in the middle of the elongated processor.

This causes uneven thermal mating surface between the ihs and chosen heatsink. Basically the processor bows in the middle causing temperature issues.

The retention frame solves this issue. It should be installed on a ll LGA 1700, preferably before latching your CPU down with the factory one so you're sure it isn't bent. Might be too late already because you used the factory one and possible bent the CPU.

You check if it's bent by standing a credit card on your CPU and shine a flashlight behind it. If you can see light escape through then your CPU is bent and cannot manage thermals the way it was designed. Unfortunately Intel says this is normal operation so you won't be able to RMA.

totally normal for i9 on air cooling.
can say this much even without owning one.

The only way to properly cool a 14900k is custom water cooling

85C during gaming is normal? lol how did intel cpu get this hot? Even when playing MSFS2020, my 7950x3d barely hit 60C

It's running close to / at 6ghz...

85-90c is not normal 1.you should be using an AIO with any upper end cpu 2.
mother boards come with stock voltages to high go into your bios and turn down your voltage
to 1.37 to 1.36 that alone will drop your temps around 10c should put even heavy gaming
at about 75c max.and honestly dump the Air cooler get a AIO.

Theres nothing normal abt it when game only runs one core at full speed

This hasn't been true for many years.
