nVidia is unifying the nVidia control panel and GeForce Experience, akin to AMD's Adrenalin
I saw that r.lindler posted a video and mentioned this in the GPU thread but I honestly thought it deserved its own thread.

nVidia is potentially going to be getting rid of their control panel and GeForce experience and replacing both with a combined "nVidia App". Bland name (if it's the final one?), but eh... it's probably more for "everything nVidia" and not just GeForce focused so I guess that's their thinking?

Here's the article from tome's Hardware on it[www.tomshardware.com], and a few select snippets.

Nvidia has slapped a fresh coat of paint on its software suite with a brand new utility called the 'Nvidia App' that unifies the ancient Nvidia Control Panel and newer GeForce Experience applications. The new app will merge all of Nvidia's outgoing applications into one unified interface for easier navigation. The app is available in beta form and can be downloaded now.

Currently, it doesn't replace the control panel, but the long-term goal does seem to be to do that.

For now, the Nvidia App feels familiar to anyone who has previously used GeForce Experience, and it offers access to many but not all of the features that are in the Control Panel. As a beta that you install separately from the core Nvidia drivers, obviously this isn't a full replacement in the present form.

What's the long-term plan? We asked Nvidia's Brian Burke, Global PR Principal. "We wanted to resolve user feedback on Nvidia Control Panel updates, and unify features from GeForce Experience into one single application. The Nvidia App beta is a first step in our journey to modernize and unify the Nvidia Control Panel, GeForce Experience, and RTX Experience apps into one application. Once we fully migrate features to the Nvidia App, we will end-of-life Nvidia Control Panel and GeForce Experience for GeForce customers."

I know many people on nVidia's side aren't fond of GeForce Experience, so I imagine some might be put off by this because of that alone. I never used it either when I use nVidia.

However, using Adrenalin has been a dream. I already knew nVidia's bare drivers were a bit aged but this showed me not just in look but in functionality are you missing out. No need for a handful of applications, like the control panel, GeForce Experience, Afterburner, OBS, and goodness knows what else to do basic things (metric monitoring, fan speed, recording, etc.) that Adrenalin does by itself, and without the need for a log in (Adrenalin has a log-in, but it's not mandatory for anything besides rewards as far as I can see), and as far as this reads, it will become the same for this new "nVidia App" where an account will remain but, hopefully, won't be mandatory for much of anything. If you just stuck to the control panel, you were missing out on so much (although if you don't desire/need that functionality, I guess it's another story).

What are nVidia user's thoughts on this? Don't want it? Anxious? Put off by change?

No, maybe slightly annoyed. I honestly don't know what to think about it. It's still in beta stage. I mean, will it be offered every time you install a new driver or is this something separate like you would download off NV's site? I use the Control Panel only and very rarely at that, just to adjust v-sync in certain cases. So it's going to bug me to have to install a third party software every time just to do this.

I don't keep any third party software on this system unless it's in regular use. Hopefully, there will be some kind of happy medium b/c I can't be the only out this with this infrequent use scenario.

I hope this program is not mandatory, but just a replacement for the GeForce experience.

I see it as a replacement for the Nvidia control panel.

nvidia inspector isn't going anywhere
and it's just a better version of the control panel anyways.

i don't really mind if they change it.
and if it's actually better then the current geforce experience
i may start using shadow play instead of OBS

we'll see
Too little, too late.

Never going back.
NVIDIA Experience sux, i never install it. It also is a heavy performance eater and slows your PC down .. I hope Experience wont be a forced tool to be installed ..
I hope i won't need an Nvidia account, That's why i never used geforce experience.

I bet i get forced to sign up. :steamsad:

That's one of the several reasons I dumped Nvidia entirely.

Unbelievably rude. And, as AMD does ray tracing just as well, and DLSS has been blown out of the water and obsoleted by FSR, Nvidia has nothing to offer.

And it has Instant Replay enabled by default, many do not know this and it can put some unnecessary wear and tear on the OS SSD if you're not paying attention

If you're going to share information it's generally a good idea to link to the actual source, instead of something with editorial comments about it. Here's a link to the actual source on Nvidia's website: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/software/nvidia-app/

You're a little wrong on your facts there. Nvidia is still twice as fast (or more) in ray tracing vs AMD. AMD is very much way behind on ray tracing even with the 7000 series cards. They may never catch up and be 1:1 on a performance parity with Nvidia in ray tracing.

Also there are many videos on youtube comparing the two. In terms of image quality AMD's FSR is very "muddy" and blurry compared to DLSS. AMD's FSR technology at the time of writing this is still vastly inferior to DLSS in almost every way.

Do note: What I just wrote is not "fanboyism" or me preferring nvidia. I like both families. I'm just sharing facts to try and make sure things stay correct and factual around the steam forums where ever possible.

Lol, you post a made up love letter to Nvidia and finish with "I'm not a fanboy! I swear!".

FSR is competitive with DLSS deal with it. RT is behind because you can't simply wish hardware into existence, designs take years. Also as the 4070 and below are showing Nvidia simply gave up being an outright winner in RT in those price points. Not that it really matters as RT just like tessellation was (gaming before you were born) its less of a real feature at this point and more of a weapon Nvidia is trying to use as a "BUY ME!!!!" gimmik.

Great job going with your feelings and not reality.
Even with all Ray Tracing aside. There still is not one good reason you could explain that will make any sense as to why I should buy an AMD GPU.

This is what we call fanboyism. Faith beyond reason, belief against logic.

I'm so glad I never fell and hit my head really hard.
It's just my choice. I don't see anything good from AMD as far as GPUs Their GPUs are weak at best with terrible performance per watts. I don't like their driver software. Bunch of bloatware junk. I also don't like AMD allowing Microsoft to push updates for AMD stuff via Windows Updates.

AMD Ryzen CPU on n the other hand. Quite a good choice.

Both Nvidia and Intel also push driver updates for their video cards via Windows Update by the way.

No they don't.
Nvidia uses GeForce Experience to do that. Microsoft never pushes any Nvidia stuff to my machines, ever.
