nVidia is unifying the nVidia control panel and GeForce Experience, akin to AMD's Adrenalin
I saw that r.lindler posted a video and mentioned this in the GPU thread but I honestly thought it deserved its own thread.

nVidia is potentially going to be getting rid of their control panel and GeForce experience and replacing both with a combined "nVidia App". Bland name (if it's the final one?), but eh... it's probably more for "everything nVidia" and not just GeForce focused so I guess that's their thinking?

Here's the article from tome's Hardware on it[www.tomshardware.com], and a few select snippets.

Nvidia has slapped a fresh coat of paint on its software suite with a brand new utility called the 'Nvidia App' that unifies the ancient Nvidia Control Panel and newer GeForce Experience applications. The new app will merge all of Nvidia's outgoing applications into one unified interface for easier navigation. The app is available in beta form and can be downloaded now.

Currently, it doesn't replace the control panel, but the long-term goal does seem to be to do that.

For now, the Nvidia App feels familiar to anyone who has previously used GeForce Experience, and it offers access to many but not all of the features that are in the Control Panel. As a beta that you install separately from the core Nvidia drivers, obviously this isn't a full replacement in the present form.

What's the long-term plan? We asked Nvidia's Brian Burke, Global PR Principal. "We wanted to resolve user feedback on Nvidia Control Panel updates, and unify features from GeForce Experience into one single application. The Nvidia App beta is a first step in our journey to modernize and unify the Nvidia Control Panel, GeForce Experience, and RTX Experience apps into one application. Once we fully migrate features to the Nvidia App, we will end-of-life Nvidia Control Panel and GeForce Experience for GeForce customers."

I know many people on nVidia's side aren't fond of GeForce Experience, so I imagine some might be put off by this because of that alone. I never used it either when I use nVidia.

However, using Adrenalin has been a dream. I already knew nVidia's bare drivers were a bit aged but this showed me not just in look but in functionality are you missing out. No need for a handful of applications, like the control panel, GeForce Experience, Afterburner, OBS, and goodness knows what else to do basic things (metric monitoring, fan speed, recording, etc.) that Adrenalin does by itself, and without the need for a log in (Adrenalin has a log-in, but it's not mandatory for anything besides rewards as far as I can see), and as far as this reads, it will become the same for this new "nVidia App" where an account will remain but, hopefully, won't be mandatory for much of anything. If you just stuck to the control panel, you were missing out on so much (although if you don't desire/need that functionality, I guess it's another story).

What are nVidia user's thoughts on this? Don't want it? Anxious? Put off by change?

I see it as a replacement for the Nvidia control panel.

Please god no.

Hopefully not.

I prefer to not have extra stuff in drivers unless absolutely necessary sorry.
There is no choice in the matter, it's a fusion between GFE and NVCP that will replace both entirely, that might be out in full force by time Blackwell hits the market next year.

Unless NVIDIA decides to allow the end user to choose between which driver suite they want, then it'll be the end for NVCP.

Not like it'll be anywhere as bad as Adrenalin was in the past, and it should replace the need for other software like MSI Afterburner.

Ok.

Do they at least have a lite mode ?

If not no big deal.

NVslimmer may be able to take it out hopefully.

It's still in development, like I said, probably won't be done until Blackwell.

Thanks.
NVIDIA's proprietary Linux drivers don't even have the control panel that users have grown so attached to, it's a lot more basic and there are other packages like GreenWithEnvy and nvidia-settings that are similarly basic. But with just the driver alone, there is no control panel GUI, so it really could be worse.

I don't miss it at all.

Edit to add - yes it did 'optimise' my games (only checked Snowrunner), but not a terrible thing.
Oh - after it installed it wanted to get an updated driver - I let it do so, and maybe that 'optimised' the game settings. I'm not fussed by that.
So it does modify the in-game graphics settings in games for us without our consent? It just does it without us telling it to? Is there any way to disable that?

I just uninstalled the NVidia control panel and the app, restarted then reinstalled the app. During setup there is a slider to control whether or not installed games will be optimised. I set it to 'OFF'. When I checked my games I saw that they had been optimised again.

As before, no big deal, but I have submitted feedback.

Oh - in answer to another post - you don't need to log in to an account for the app to work/run.
Glad i have a copy of NVCP that i can install after i just update my video card drivers. As i never used geforce experience. I seen it as bloat ware. With the driver updates in the 500 to 600 mb.
I'm really glad, because GFE is garbage compared to AMDs Adrenaline Software.
my comment:
i havent read the whole thread and i want to say, that it is a good idea from nvidia to code a new GUI (graphical user interface) for all functionality. why? AMD has done so with ADRENALINE and so nvidia must code this. i would wonder about that, if there would be one change in functionality. thats the whole deal to me about the new nvidia software.
thx for reading.

At least the new NVIDIA app won't require a login.

It's ridiculous that it even needs one.

NVIDIA Experience sux, i never install it. It also is a heavy performance eater and slows your PC down .. I hope Experience wont be a forced tool to be installed ..

It takes a whooping 160 MB RAM and uses anywhere from 0% to 0.2% of my CPU. Also no, the instant replay isn't on.

Phew, that is a big load on my CPU and RAM! I don't know if I have enough CPU and RAM left for the rest of my stuff now.

Show some proof before you state some bs.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo! What a terrible idea.

I suppose it makes sense for NVIDIA but I have never used Experience and don't want NVIDIA's bloatware on my PC in future, either.

Well the idea of it before was to have profile based settings I think, based on your login. Plus there used to be tons of games where in order to redeem the game you'd need to do that through GFE, hence another reason for the login. This got even more stupid when people actually needed to redeem the game code while having a certain gpu installed.

That's just dumb. Adrenaline remembers your configurations without any required login.
Even more silly is the game redemption code process. My HD 7770 from XFX came with 2 redemption codes I only had to plug in on XFX's website. I didn't even have to login as those two codes were tied to a specific URL for those 2 codes.

It feels like to me an nVidia's user analytics scheme. My PC doesn't phone home to AMD unless I tell it to.
