Issue playing doom eternal on Linux pop os

Hi all, I’m trying out pop os 22.04 to see how steam/proton works and I’m running into some issues. I install steam and some games work like portal 2 and serious Sam 3, but when I try to play doom eternal it loads up I can see the cpu and gpu load go up and even hear the game but the game is not displaying. I only see the desktop and when moving the mouse around I can hear the sounds of the menu selection like when you move the mouse over a menu item in game before clicking it. The does not show up in the dock, and looking at the progresses running I see the doom eternal exe but can figure out how to give it focus so I can see the game on full screen. This happens with multiple versions of proton. I don’t think it’s a hardware issue as other games work-I think those game are Linux compatible and the issue seems to pop up when I try to play doom eternal which seems to be a windows game trying to use proton. Truthfully I’m not sure how to tell what games are Linux and what games are just windows yet, besides not having option of a green play button if I turn on compatibility

This is a fresh install of the os and I’ve only updated everything that I could find to update and installed steam and the games. So I’m guessing I’m not using proton correctly?

I’m running pop os 22.04 LTS (NVIDIA) updated everything that has an update that I can find

Downloaded steam (pop os(deb) and tried flathub(flat pack) with same result) and steam devices

System is i9 9900kf 32gb nvidia 3080ti

Have tried reinstalling steam, the doom eternal and reinstalling the os, each with same result. It seems that trying to run a game using proton(any version

Ok I got it working it was the version of proton that was the issue….i was trying to use experimental and 9….but it seems that it only works on my set up version 8 and below

Well you clearly don't understand why Radeon is better on Linux.

Yeah not all versions of Proton will work the same, that's why you always have the option to change it to another version, older games don't usually need the latest version

NVIDIA is fine on Linux, and it's only going to improve because NVIDIA isn't ignoring Linux anymore. Wayland works nearly flawlessly on the beta driver, and they're including open source kernel modules starting with driver version 560, it won't take them that long to catch up to how "good" Radeon has it on Linux.

I run CachyOS KDE with a 3080, Wayland worked flawlessly out of the box, HDR works, the gap between GeForce and Radeon is swiftly shrinking.
