*New* Noctua NH-D15 Gen 2 to cost $150, available end of June, 2024!
I've been looking forward to this news for a few years now. And now, it is finally a reality! I have been using the Noctua NH-D15 Gen 1 for going on 10 years now. It is the best air CPU cooler that I have used. It's silent, keeps my i7 cool, smells just fine, and looks just fine. That being said, it will be interesting to see how the new generation of the famous NH-D15 performs with the new wave of CPUs launching in the not-so-distant, and distant future. What about you?

so MAKE the case the cooler.
if a tiny case like the DB4 can cool fully passively an 100-110W cpu and a 75-100W cpu while one side is not utilised for cooling.
than a bigger one, that DOES utilise all 4 dies most definitly can propely cool a modern cpu.. + a midrange gpu.

I bet with a bit of tweaking you could already the 7800x3d or 7950x3d running inside the db4..
120W tdp is not that far off it's upper limit.. so a bit of underclock/volt should suffice.
but any modern gpu would be off the table.
not many made these day you can get to run at 100W.
PERHAPS an undervolted and clocked 4060..

if the other route..

that NH-P1 is large.. and would cover most my motherboard.. but it could easely fit my case.. and would be MUCH less of a hassle to remove than my current watercooling is.. that needs draining.. (always risky.. as it does not drain well with gravity.. I basicly have to make it be pumped dry) which will heat my cpu up insanely fast.. to the point of killing itself.. so it's a risky maneuver...

than.. I have to rempove 8 fittings.. as even when drained.. pipes can leak.. and get in the way... and plug the holes.... in the radiators... with plugs..

remove the gpu.. to not have it leak.. and finally remove the pump..

all that just to instal an m.2 or plug in some more ram...

and than all that in reverse....

vs that.. just having 1 massive block of metal to remove.. would be MUCH less a hassle..
or just get a 360 AIO and avoid it all !

what you think that raientek one I originally had was?
it broke.. after just a year.. causing an drm.. which caused my gpu to be damaged.. which was just as gpu's became impossible to obtain.. leading to my pc of just 14 months old.. being 15 months in drm...
and the only way that ended was with a watercooled gpu.. so that basicly locked me in for custom loop.

it still totally ruined my white build btw.,. so I still feel like you bought an expensive sportcar than now has 1 panel in totally the wrong colour..

imagine having spend nearly 10k on a pc.. and not being able to use if for 2 our of the first 3 years you own it... having to toss in another 2k to finally get parts for it to get it running again that look terrible... while you used to buy a perfectly build with all parts looking great together...
ONLY to have after that chapter the pumps of that loop.. break on you many times too.. each time leading to an even worse look of your system..
and adding another 1000+ in labourcorst alone.. for the part may have fallen under warranty.. the labour to replace it did not.. nor all the costs of new fittings and pipes each time as ofcourse each pump needed different ones..

you be watercooling never again too.

Yeah im never touching watercooling, custom loop or aio. Except maybe the pumpless aio noctua are making, that could be great.

I had a couple of aio’s before, and the pump was noisy in both , and it failed in both.

I gave up on AIO's, the only one I had luck with was the OG H100, its still on my Phenom II x6 1100T system, still works. All the AIO's I had after were not worth it to me, So Air it is for me, last forever.
My AIO has failed within 2 years ($450AUD) so I've been researching and it looks like the NH-D15 G2 is only 1-1.5 degrees better than the stanadr NH-D15 or 2.5-3.5 degrees than NH-D15 black. So for twice the price I may just buy the Standard NH-D15 and save $100AUD. And have a cooler that will last for 10+ years.

Gen2 only has about +15 CFM over the Gen1 - the thing that is bad about the newer models are the larger fans and the thing is a bit wider because of said fans. :badluck:

its simple....its the cooler that could never justify its price....55 dollar 360mm AIOs beat it by 10C.......that's right kids....the thermalright frozen prism beats it by almost 10C......its a 3rd of the price.....the 4C it has over a peerless assassin cant justify the extra 115 dollars in price......

you could do this with the assassin and still have a cooler that will last a decade.....
This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
