Need multicam stream/ recording
I have recently discovered that the Elgato 4 input capture card has been discontinued.

So, I was considering buying a second camlink pro. My concern was about usb 3 busses. In theory I was going to plug one Camlink Pro to my pcI-E USB 3 card and another into my motherboard. Would I be right in thinking that the way I wanted to connect would not create conflicts or saturate the usb 3.0?

Many thanks for your assistance.

how would they?
if they are on different usb controllers

its 2 usb ports per controller
you could use front panel header, and rear io usb 3.0 port
if the board has more than 2x 3.x ports, use ports that are not stacked so each is on its own controller

you could have them on the same controller, or usb hub, but they would be fighting for bandwidth to the controller

That was more my point - concerns about fighting for bandwidth. But the front headers on my case are connected to the mobo. Then there are the mobo connections, then in addition there is the pci-e usb card.

Thanks for helping me clear that up.

Do you really plan on using all those inputs? If you only wanted to use one, I'd consider the AVerMedia Live Gamer Ultra 2.1. If you already have, disregard.

Yes. I have plans for a multicam shoot with 2+ cameras and need synced audio etc. A second camlink gives me 2 inputs. It's due to the design of my mirrorless camera which has a clean hdmi output, but, being a Sony, if it is used as a video camera it has a 30 minute limit. Plus, it's about reducing work in post.

Camlink for the A5100 camera with the 30 minute run time. If you run it in movie mode but fail to hit the record button, it acts as a webcam when used with the camlink.

Other camera is a video camera so has no limitations on recording time. But also, has clean hdmi output so could utilise camlink.

Working theory - both cams go via individual camlink to OBS for multicam.

Other working theory- more costly - is secondary videocamera that can WiFi connect to the main video camera. Once these cameras are connected via WiFi recording on one, activates the other. I can do that with the existing camera set up, but if I do that, then the mirrorless Sony will overheat within 10 minutes, not 30 minutes. This is due to sensor heat + wifi heat generated by the mirrorless while live streaming to the video camera. Using this method reduces sync errors in post.

Sounds complex to me, but you're right that you need it. I have two, haven't used them at all much lately. The ElGato HD60S and the NZXT. Both are USB-C (with adapters for regular USB) and had no problems working alongside eachother connected at the same time so I think you'll be fine.

for streaming console games you need 2 cap cards
one for the console, and another for the cam

and use obs to mix them and audio for mic and game sounds, and other overlays if you want

It's not for streaming gaming content. Just for clarification. It's for a music video project and for my other streaming projects in a non-game environment. I don't stream games with this setup at all.

It is rather complex. I am trying to simplify my setup but it is rather complex.

Not including my phone camera, I have 2x 4k action cams, a video camera and the secondary video on the mirrorless to sync in post. Not all cameras can do 4k, those that do are at different frame rates. Those cameras that match frame rate don't all match resolution.

I live in the Pal Region, but not all my cameras are bang on 25 fps. So, somewhere along the line footage either needs rescaling or retiming depending.

well, you are asking advice on a game forum, so

but anyway, that was one reason to need 2 hdmi cap devices

for multiple 4k streams, i would really use a pci-e cap card or two

I captured a Pal VHS around 2007 with a Hauppauge PVR-150 because it was not available any other way.

Edit: This wasn't pirating or anything related to that

I know, but Steam users can be wise and informative even when not directly approaching a gaming subject. So, with the capture card part, I am in the right place.

I was only picking brains anyway. My situation and needs are pretty unique.

Okay, I have sorted it out now. Thank you for the assistance where you could. It is much appreciated.
