Do you like HDR?

I know Windows 10 & 11 support it (my monitor supports HDR also, I tried some films and nature documentaries in HDR), and also heard that Linux and Android support it too. Is that true?

no, black backrounds are shown in artifacts . . .
you need a lot of time with a 3rd-party software to adjust colors . . .

In my personal opinion HDR is awesome but damn time consuming to adjust.
Barely any game has a proper HDR implementation and if your Monitor doesn't support true blacks you absolutely need to adjust for that too. Thats the case with my Monitor.

Besides that there are SDR Options atleast with my Monitor that influence the HDR image so I need a different Monitor setting for HDR and SDR. Also took a while until I found this one out.

You can account for all of this but it took me probably around 50hrs to learn how to properly adjust HDR. Always when I thought I knew how to set it up I learned something new.

Last thing I learned is. Once you know how to adjust everything there is still a part of personal taste and the most correct HDR settings might not quite be the ones you will like the most.

I like it a lot, but only on my LG C2 OLED which I only use for games and watching TV/Movies. Infinite contrast with bright colours really stand out you know. I've also been playing with RTX HDR recently released by NVIDIA. Makes good older SDR games shine in HDR, but it does need configuring though.

My M32U monitor has HDR but I don't use it. It's okay I guess, but it doesn't hold a candle to anything on an OLED. So for the games I play on my monitor, I leave it off.

For some reason, desktop OLED monitors that support HDR are pretty expensive. While smartphones' AMOLED screens (probably supporting HDR too) are much, much cheaper. I wonder why?

No, HDR on PC is junk.
I prefer to manually adjust my Monitors and GPU how I see fit.

If it were properly standardized and more user friendly, sure. But at the moment it's just too much a pain in the butt to get working properly. Between the industry standards being so wildly varied and all the extra tinkering and adjusting you have to do to get it to work in each game, just not worth the hassle.

Depends on the display. Many monitors that have HDR can't really do it justice. I think you really need an OLED to display HDR. Then it's very impressive, but I wouldn't pay money for it.

Eh, it's okay. My desktop monitor is HDR 400 capable, and I have a Steam Deck OLED which can do HDR 1000. It's nice, especially with really dark games, but if the feature disappeared I wouldn't be completely heartbroken.

I usually, when not gaming, have it off

And the brightness is 0% above the minimal level. I learned my lesson from earlier in life where I just allowed my screen to give off radiation

3dtv kinda worked
but depending on the style ymmv
polarized worked good, but shutter was hit/miss

hdr is faked, just limiting output range, if the display is set properly you get better color range than when using hdr
