Chrome is proprietary spyware, so is Opera GX. Opera GX is also just another Chromium-based browser, do not support Google's monopoly on the browser market, use something that isn't Chromium-based.

Use something Gecko (Firefox), KHTML or Apple Webkit-based. Anything that is not Chromium/Blink.

VPNs are useless unless you go to extremes to hide your identity, that means no logins, wiping cookies every session and compartmentalization. Many VPNs collect data on you which is then sold to advertisers and other third parties.

If something for online is "free" it will generally cost you something. VPNs are over-rated, and only more "private" if you are a subscriber.

Both browsers collect and sell user data. Nothing you can do about it. I suggest you read up on Chrome and its upcoming Federated Learning of Cohorts--FLoC-- which is a browser platform that does away w/third party cookies in favor of more advanced user tracking. Google it (haha).

Several chromium browsers have said they'd part company w/Chrome. We'll see. I run Firefox as my primary--it has its follies but I'm OK with it for now. :steamhappy:

i personally use operagx
mainly for the style/customization,force dark page option, built in adblock and built in discord
that said, the VPN is free and has unlimited data, however it seriously slows down your connection while using it, it's usable for browsing the internet though

in terms of a "opera vs chrome"
opera is the same browser technically due to it being built on chromium
so they are the same speed, and take up roughly around the same ram usage
(opera is like ever so slightly lighter on the ram usage)
but i just prefer opera for the features listed above that are all built in

I'd say brave and Firefox are currently the best privacy based internet browsers out right now. Edit- I personally use brave as it has better privacy by default such as Https everywhere already built in aswell as a ad blocker that rivals "ublock origin" aswell as many more advanced user setting you can tweak to trailor your experience to your liking . There's nothing wrong with firefox the browser it's definitely one of the best browsers out there but I decided to make the switch when Firefox decided to make a politically driven blog posts so yeah they can ♥♥♥♥ off.

Use Brave Browser.

:edit: Brave for Mobile allows youtube vids to play while the is screen off. Just go into settings and enable play in background. Listening to youtube vids helps pass the time while at work.

The company behind Brave commonly does shady crap. Such as when they tried to replace ads on websites with their own.

And the main selling point of the browser is the promise of "free" money.

Don't use it.

sounds like Firefox propaganda that gets spread around on firefox Reddit (and this is coming from someone who had been using them since the very beginning up Intill a year ago) The built-in cryptocurrency earning plugin is entirely optional and can be completely disabled. It easy to dig up dirt on fixfox aswell, their record isn't exactly squeaky clean.
It's optional yes, but the main reason for most people to use it is still the free crypto. Brave's marketing scheme focuses people's greed with the promise of free crypto.

The only reason the browser is even alive is because of this crypto. Without the crypto very few people would actually be using it.

The massive amount of Brave spam with referal links and posts saying that they earned $1000 in a year is disgusting.

I have principles and refuse to endorse mindless greed. Crypto is just as fake as the stock market, it provides nothing of value.

Just to clarify I deleted my post before you replied to me as I thought it best I didn't make such a blacket statement on such claims as being "Firefox propaganda" when I haven't fully looked into it so I apologise for that. After a quick search I can now see brave was excused of replacing ads with their own affiliate ads which is indeed shady for not disclosing it with their uses and I must admit the whole bat cryptocurrency thing did definitely rub me up the wrong way when I first installed it but i was able to looked passed it as I just disabled it all. I might look into this abit more and rethink my decision to switch to brave. As I said I initially switched the brave because Firefox started become quite political in a few blog posts they released not because it's failing in the privacy department .Thanks for the info omega

1st. Why necro a 2 year old thread?

2nd. As a Linux user who uses quite a few terminal applications, even for stuff you wouldn't expect like music players. I would never use a cli browser like w3m or lynx. Learning Firefox's keybinds is good enough for me.

Usually called "pagers".

I wish more pages today were optimized for those.

Too much bloat: JS, trackers, beacons, cookies, ads, etc.

just use firefox... it's been better than anything else for like 20+ years.
