windows 10 support ending soon?
just logged onto my account and noticed a blurb popping up saying windows 10 support will be ending soon May 2025, and that afterwords i will have 1 year to upgrade to windows 11 otherwise my license could be pulled, this is mildly upsetting to me as this is the same song and dance they pulled with minecraft, a game which i had growing up but no longer enjoy. im wondering if anyone else has gotten this notification and their thoughts on it?

it's been known that support is ending in 2025 for a long time now

It’s been well documented for the last year that support was ending

It ends Oct 2025.

MS just trying to apply fear, don't worry about it.

Your license can't be pulled, you just won't get Win10 Updates beyond Oct 2025.

MS will allow consumers to extend their updates support on a per year payment method (not sure how much) for a maximum extension until 2028.

Or Win10 users can go purchase a Win10 64bit Enterprise product key for around $30 and activate that and that Edition will be covered automatically until 2028 final cut off

This should not be news to any user, we've known this since at least as far back as 2020

Microsoft won't pull your Windows license for not upgrading.

It just means you won't be eligible for security updates past that date which is actually October 14, 2028.

There's also Windows 10 LTSC, which has security updates until 2032 (IoT version)
If Microsoft gave me win 11 pro for my win 10 pro key for free I would upgrade.

You could have upgraded for free just some months back. Microsoft took away the ability to upgrade for free.

I'm on win11 with my Win8.1 key.

LTSC 2022 is only a 5 year support version. 2024 will go back to a 10 year support cycle.

My PC is fairly okay- (i7 8700, 32 gb ram, 3060 gtx, 2 ssd drives and a turntable. Sufficient for gaming, but there's games I no longer can run on ultra comfortably, fair enough, but it's no potato.

Today it said support is ending for win 10 in a year-ish. My PC can't run win 11, supposedly, so they recommend I buy a new PC that can.

What the actual ♥♥♥♥? Sure, it's no Cray super PC, but it can run most games at epic settings no problem.

Windows is getting more and more invasive. Each time you open ANYTHING, it's 'would you like to know more?' 'make this your sole software' 'we value your privacy a lot' (we can sell it, after all) and so on. I just want to use things. I'm not a moron that has never used this ♥♥♥♥ before. Stop foisting training wheels and ads on me in the guise of trying to be helpful.

OKay. Yeah. Sorry for ranting, but microsoft is increasingly annoying the ♥♥♥♥ out of me.

Everyone here are gamers. I don't NEED windows for business and such - are there any gamer alternatives? Is SteamOS an option? How does that work? Is it steamdeck only?

Windows 11 is hot garbo. There's workarounds for most of the worst BS, but it's not worth it anymore.

When 10 support ends, it's time for linux full time.

No. But if something requires an internet connection you may get screwed.
Same goes for games that require you to be connected to the internet. They may stop functioning at some point.

I had a i7 8700k running Windows 11. I have to assume though that your motherboard doesn't have TPM or has it disabled. So I would look into that. It may appear to their scans that you can't run Windows 11, but it's not an infallible claim, just the best info they have based on your current config.
