Games unplayable after SSD change and windows fresh install on Legion GO

Hi everyone, recently changed the legion go ssd with a 2TB 2230 and an adaptor.

I reinstalled windows 11 and every drivers from the lenovo site.

From now on, every games have loading times with an average 5 to 10 minutes, and HUGE fps drops, even on some pretty cheap gba emulators.

What I want to know is, is it caused by the adaptor? So I'll just swap for an extender. Or is it caused by the windows fresh install? So I'll need to do a new one with the lenovo recovery tool.

Did you install video and chipset drivers after that fresh reinstall?

I said "every drivers from the lenovo site.", this include "every drivers for the machine".

edit: they're of course up to date too.

Drivers and windows or specifically the Recovery Media that Lenovo supplies for the Legion Go?

Windows from the media creation tool, then every drivers from the legion go page.
We couldn't download the recovery media from lenovo website because they asked for an account but my brother never created one.

That was going to be my next point. I read a thread on Reddit that advised about recovery media and needing an account and hardware details for the media.

To save me copy and pasting the information, here's the post for further information. Seemed like a reasonably well written description of the process.

You never need a recovery media. Juat make your own Win11 usb flash drive.

I was just reading about your lenovo go and man there are issues all over like you are having with upgrading to 2230 SSD's and using an adapter. First I know nothing about your lenovo but when I see problems like you are having I take the path of least resistance. I would ditch the adapter and the 2230 and get the low power 2TB 2242. If you haven't downloaded the PDF manual then you need to. From what I read it is a good manual. This may not be what you want to read but that is what I would do with the limited information I have. My opinion.

I just made up my mind to ditch this crappy adaptor but I'll not buy another SSD, an extender will do the trick.

As mentioned above, have you done a drive benchmark?
Crystal Disk Mark would be the go to

Drive speeds would not affect a GBA Emu because of how light weight they are, so i wouldnt pin that on SSD/Adapter issues. Display drivers not working correctly could cause such FPS issues though.

With nothing open/running open up the task manager and see if anything has unusually high CPU or Disk usage, do this when an Emu is running as well.

Also, any GPU drivers from their website MIGHT be outdated, so you should get the latest from Intel/AMD/NVIDIA, whichever is applicable to that device.

I'm just thinking that the thing is just so slow to send information to the CPU that everything slows down, when we get everything slow on games, CPU and GPU are not even above 50% use on task manager.

Why an adapter though. Doesn't the device support M2 2230 by default? I thought it did

Nope it's 2242 only, but an extender is enough, I should have opted for this.

I would return the ssd and adapter.

There are enough ssds for 2242 available even 2TB

That's not the same price my friend. An extender will do the same as buying a 2242.
