Are there any GPU's not being bought out by miners and scalpers?
BF 2042 reveal has me realizing my 1060 3gb is nearing the end of its run, is there any half decent upgrade out there that miners are missing? At the moment I'm not quite willing to pay $600+ when my current card is for the most part good enough for everything I play. I fairly certain I already know the answer but I figured I would at least ask.

You're unlikely to get a decent upgrade because of current pricing and scalping when suitable upgrades like the 3070 are going for at least 2080 Ti MSRP.

A lot of people are in the same boat including me. I was going to upgrade this past year and was waiting on the new cards. I have a 960 but at least it is the 4gb model. All new PC with no new card kinda sucks lol.

you can get a high end GPU at a realistic price, don`t think i can advertise in here but i will put on my profile.

That doesn't sound sus at all.

Not to mention his profile is private.

OP, best bet is to sign up at evga or Asus stores, they sell them at msrp, it just may take a few months, beyond that the founders editions are sold at msrp when they drop if you get very lucky.

Final option if you can afford it initially and are desperate is to pay the scalped price and mine on it for a few months to make back the extra cost.

Pretty much any major tech media outlet has predicted that the chip shortage issue will last for maybe another year. Unless the crypto mining market crashes first which no doubt flushes the second-hand market with rather deteriorated GPUs, the current state of affairs will last a while yet.

The cards used for mining will of been under less stress than those used gir gaming technically.

Also, you place a, way bigger burden on mining for the shortages than it deserves.

There is a global silicon shortage, it is affecting everything.

Car production is having temporary shut downs as they can't get the chips they need, hell I went to order a new car last week and cannot order the phone wireless charging unit because of lack of chips and some models are going to be going back to analogue instrument dials because they cannot get enough of the new digital dash's!

If mining stopped globally tomorrow, you still wouldn't be able to buy a new gpu at msrp until next year atleast at this rate, demand massively outstrips supply.

Yes. Cards with less than or about 4GB memory, like the one you have.

3GB 1060 is still a decent card for 1080p. 3GB is enough V-ram if you keep the Texture Quality to medium. High / Ultra texture is not much noticeable in 1080p anyway. Moreover, there is Nvidia Texture compression technology which will trigger when the V-ram runs low.

The only cards which still have a "resonable" price with 4gigs of DDR5 (dont even think about HBM or HBM2) are the ones which were manufactured around 2013-2014. Im thinking of the R9 290x Tri-X from Sapphire which still runs on my second system to this day. RDR2 with high/custom settings @40-50 FPS.
Youll pay around 150 bucks for a used one and it does its job.

As for OP and his 1060 3GB, Im gonna roll with the majority here and suggest to stay with your card, at least to the end of this year. Its still a decent one.
Dont give scalpers a chance. These "creatures" arent even worth the skin off your knuckles, let alone your money.

I know, we all want to play the newest games on max settings and enjoy gaming&hardware like its meant to be but were living in different times.
I sware to god, I would still use my GTX1080 or Vega 64, but I was lucky with an AMD drop. Didnt even sold my 1080 on Ebay, because I knew that people would pay way too much and the ones who desperately need a new card, are being left outside in the cold.
Sold it to a kid for 280 bucks, who couldnt afford a new one.

edit : Stay strong, brothers&sisters, every dry season ends.

edit II : Same goes for everyone else who cant get his hands on a new GPU and tends to buy a used card or pay double/triple retail prices. Please, dont do it. You are not only hurting your own wallets......

And here I am with a 1650 non-Super I can't even give away. Had it for years from a friend who didn't want it after upgrading to a 2080 ti.

Looking to replace my gtx970 w/ 4gb vram & still works but I've been shopping around and my results are summed up in two words... Sold Out. I also get the statement, "this item on back order". I suppose I could shop for used stuff but reluctant to do so. I guess I'll just have to ask Santa next x-mas... a 2070 or 2080 will do and I'm just looking for 6 to 8 gb vram.

Well crypto bubbles burst, supply shortages pass, eventually it won't be an issue.

This.

There are not enough chips to manufacture products. Even Nvidia 3080 TI cards are going for stupid money at standard retail.

Sign up for alerts, and get your fingers ready for ordering as fast as possible when something becomes available. Avoid Amazon - they are heavily botted and the reasonably priced cards you may find are typically always from hacked accounts. It is not impossible to get cards - I have personally ordered and received a 3070 for myself, a 3070 for a friend, and a 3060 TI for another friend.

You're better off selling right now and putting gaming on hold due to the market.
