That’s what I’ve been trying to wrap my head around. Where I found the info about my issue.
after major updates it reverts all drivers to its defaults
get the correct drivers from the mobo mfg or oem site and amd/intel/nvidia
Since it’s Alienware I usually use dell first, then nvidia but hadn’t considered directly from intel. I did see an issue similar to mind with the cpu driver not wanting to stick with Alienware. An intel driver i think. Sorry. On iPad. Spellchecker. I hear ya. I hope to find access to the file but I think it could be that memory space not being taken but being said it is taken. Not paged. I ran chkdsk with r and f commands. I’ve ran recovery options of rolling back and restore but restore overwrote after the problem and keeps seeming to overwrite. I did change my drive names a few months ago in windows but not logged in as admin. I rarely logged in as admin. Think that became a problem.
Update. I renamed the wdf file in d. Which is c drive to the old version in admin x: folder for the drivers and got critical process died. I also renamed the one in x. Lol. I’m trying everything. Almost.
If I could just try to copy the updated version of wdf01000.sys to x: to make it more recent it may work? I’m bout to stop for the night if I can’t get back into safe mode at least. All memory checks were okay. Only system issue showed in core test was my battery health. All systems go.
Anyone know how to run a memory test and fix from cmd?
Install and run SPECCY. Launch it. When the system summary page comes up and has finished loading, click on FILE > Publish > copy-to-clipboard.
Paste that into a post here and we'll be able to see what all Drivers the system needs.
Or, since it is a Dell, simply share the Service Tag # from which we can look this up at Dell.com/Support in order to see the device specs and such.
Sounds like you goofed up a Windows reinstall at some point. As the the OS should always be on C Drive. OEM systems I often find that there is another drive letter for the repair partition, this should not exit and that drive letter should be removed after a clean OS install. Or wipe the OS Drive 100% clean and do a fresh install via your own self made Win10 64bit 21H1 USB Flash Drive.
I have not network access directly with it but I have the service tag from the tests.

Got passed critical process died but still showed the page fault in non-paged area. I triggered the critical error when I renamed the files trying to update it. I Don’t Know how to get that program atm. Can’t find a usb device right now. We all here got sick so it’s an uphill battle. But perhaps I can get it off another pc onto that usb that I can’t find yet. Until then I immediately had my tag number already from taking pics of my errors. Tysm. I’m thankful for any and all ideas
So. I’ll find the usb. I’ll rest and tend my sick loved ones. Lol. And I’ll try to get back on it later today. 👍. It’s Friday! Hope y’all are having a good weekend. Thank You! Again.
Set to None > Set > click OK on those two windows; restart Windows to apply.
Go back to the PageFile settings and now select C Drive, then select input the same size into Min and Max, such as 8GB (8192) or 16GB (16384). The long value is in MegaBytes, which is how the value must be entered in this setting area.
Then click Set > click OK on those two windows; restart Windows to apply.
Now see if your issues still exists.
Win10 Users should avoid any further updates beyond what came out on Patch Tuesday back in May 2021. As some users may have received some faulty updates in June that MS ended up recalling and pulling completely. MS is making a big announcement on June 24th 2021; and its best to just Pause Win10 Updates for approx 14-28 days. Simply due to the fact that if another major Feature Updates is coming, or a new OS, then these current Win10 updates are pointless to bother with.
Good to have you around. Respect ✊ and appreciation. 👍
I’ll come back once I’ve attempted this.
Probably getting a new larger HDD as well ... if that is possible for your Laptop ? Getting it all reconfigured correctly as well as having Window Updates removed if possible.
I would format, delete all the partitions on the main drive and reinstall Windows with a clean drive
Though before formatting i would copy the Windows key just in case it didnt auto reactivate afterwards, just to be safe.
Also, if the laptop has more than one drive i would disconnect them first so the boot crap doesnt attach to them after reinstalling windows.
All the major OEMs do this from the factory clone partitions; they always have done this with OEM prebuilds from brands like Dell, HP, Lenovo, Gateway... don't ask me why, cause it's really dumb. Like the System Reserved or Recovery partitions have a drive letter; yea that should never be like that.
That driver framework file. I had a windows update. The restore is somehow after it. So. My mind says maybe I can save something.
Yes it came partitioned. I like it separate for system vs optional programs myself but games and modding software are huge! I have unity installed. Lol that should tell you I have a huge hdd. I just used a lot up. Had about 20 g left. Maybe this will help more?! I was in the middle of steam installing a game when it last crashed BSOD. It was probably working with the allocated memory on my hard drive ? And nvidia was updated. It’s windows that updated same day as dl‘ing the game. It was huge so I had to make room. I have a terabyte I think at min. And an external I was slowly backing up to. 👍
You guys are really smart! Thank You!
And thank you Eternie. You always help me keep my head up when I start to worry. Lol. Thank You! 🤗
If thats the OS drive that is far too few to have
If a storage drive it can be an issue if a game has a large update and has to swap out files but doesnt have the space to do so.
We mentioned that a partitioned drive itself could be the root of an issue because its true
Its better and with regard to troubleshooting to just have the Entire drive available instead of in sections for stuff that is going to be on the drive anyway.
With that said
using a partitioned drive that came with the laptop that itself could be the problem.
If you like partitions thats well n good, But i would format it and partition it yourself if need be.
You never know sometimes with preinstalled Windows, thats why any time i work on a new system for someone i format it to get rid of all the OEM crap and any partitions.
But all in all, i still say that a partitioned drive by itself can be the cause of a number of issues.
Not to mention each Partition will only have certain space available to that partition and Not the entirety of the drive, so at some point you'll have to move stuff around to make room, Which is where having a drive with No partitions are best.
So again, as i said
I would format the entire drive and remove the partitions so you have full access to the drive and not just parts of it.
Then after a game or two, some work on my 17 r 2. 💗
