That doesn't make any sense. The 3GB is a merely cut down version of the 6G, you're only getting around 10% performance and 3 extra GB of VRAM in a card, barely an upgrade.
If that upgrade happens to cost you more than the difference between the MSRP of a 1060 3 and 6GB (i.e. if the difference is 30, you pay 30 for the upgrade) then you're just wasting your money.
