Windows Defender Full Scan 100% CPU Usage?
I just did a windows defender full system scan on a new PC with a fresh install of windows.

It's running on a pretty fast SSD with a 14900k. But then I noticed in the task manager the CPU usage is at 100 percent?

Is this normal?

Yes, if you want you can make your scan take longer but usage be lower, but I figure you want it to go fastest as possible to doing it scam rather than slowing it down.

When a full system scan hits compressed files, yes, it's normal. Only when launched manually though. When a full system scan is scheduled, the cpu usage is throttled by default.

Lookup the Set-MpPreference command if you're interested in changing any of the defaults. For example:

Set-MpPreference -ThrottleForScheduledScanOnly $false

That will throttle the CPU for manual (full) scans too.
