OLED displays users, how is the burn-in?
What's up!

For those of you using OLED (organic light-emitting diode) displays, how bad is the burn-in/image retentiion? Looking at possibly getting into the OLED diplay game in the next year or so (2025-2026), and the problems with burn-in are the main detractor for me. Also, I read that text clarity can be an issue.

OLED itself hasn't really changed much in regards to preventing burn in. For the most part, burn in avoidance is up to the software. This still just comes down to the specific product, rather than based on the type of panel.
And that is why i will never own an oled display. Any display that cannot be used to display static images or images with static elements 24/7 is unfit for use imo.

To be fair, you would have issues using any display 24/7. Image retention is not exclusive to OLED.

a newer lcd panel with static image for <5 years will not show any burn

depends on brightness. even at 25% brightness oled would develop burn-in much faster than an lcd.

do not worry. quantum nanorods are soon going to oust oled.

Even cheap LCD TVs don’t have any real burn-in/image retention problem.

On the other hand, OLEDs (organic LEDs) will degrade over time no matter what. We can only slow down or minimize the process.

Yet, on another hand, my iPhone X with an OLED screen has no image retention at all, not even white battery or time from the corners, and I use my phone way too much.

On the fourth hand, my PlayStation Vita OLED screen had two spots in the middle of the screen. We will know in about 5-7 years if modern OLED monitors have image retention problems.

rtings currently runs a stress test. I got a vita too and no burn in for me. same thing for my phones, tv and portable monitor.

but my qd oled monitor developed some nasty spots after just two months of barely any use.

I mean, if we are talking extremes like 24/7, I think brightness levels are a bit pointless. Settings matched, in a 24/7 scenario, both screens would have burn in after some time.

Pick your poison (or rather, find the one that doesn't concern you).
This 100%.
Because there is yet to be a perfect or near-perfect display panel for a multi-tasker/gamer, one must default to the 'lesser of evils'. For me, that is a new tech that will soon be announced...

TN: Crappy viewing angles, poor color accuracy.

Each panel type has some pros and cons.
The viewing angle ain't a problem when you're sitting right in front of it, center-on, friend. A null point, really.

Poor color accuracy? Looks mighty fine to me! Calibration is a thing.:steamhappy:

This has literally NOTHING to do with calibration whatsoever.
Bad color accuracy, bad contrast.

TN panels are for people whod dont have much money or competetive DOTA2 CS2 players.
Other than that, it sucks

It sucks so hard, that I cant even find the rights word to describe how bad TN panels are.
I've played RDR2 on a TN panel. I first thought it was a joke and couldn't believe my eyes.
Than I realized something.

Good, bad, really bad, the worst, TN panel.
That's how it goes.

Some tn panels are bad but there are good ones too. I had a pg278q, which is a tn panel and it looked great. Then i upgraded to pg279q which is almost identical but ips, which also looks great, but not much better than the tn it replaced in my opinion. I can hardly tell the difference.

Pretty sure that I have a really good TN panel, as well. I really don't see a reason to upgrade it just yet, however, I am very well aware of the potential that is brewing in the mix...
LG C1 65" owner which is used for gaming (PC, PS5), movies and sports. No image retention whatsoever. Would 100% do it again. I hate LCD displays now lol

Yes, and how long have you had this display? How much do you usually use it?
