Unless he intends to not use a new PC at all for almost a year, and will be spending $1000+ USD on a graphics card, much better to just buy now.
Well, I mean, he just said he doesn't have the money all at once now, so he has to wait at least 3 months anyway, and at that point it's only 3 months more.
Also, that might be true of the Nvidia cards, but I can't imagine Intel Arc Battlemage cards would be very expensive since Intel's fighting down in the dirt for low cost cards with A.M.D. and their current flagship product, the A770 L.E. is only $580, an we're sitting in the $400-600 budget for a card anyway, so Intel may be relevant.
Also, speaking of A.M.D. and cards that cost $580, looks like the RX 7900 GRE[www.amazon.com] just got an unexpected international release today for that price.
Yeah, that sounds like a fair assertion. RTX 4070 Super is only $20 more going by M.S.R.P. and it'd be weird to say you have a hard cutoff of $580. The price difference is only about 3%.
Intel Arc was never that expensive. Arc A770 16gb G6 costs $310 on Amazon.
My personal opinion would be to "spend" that $500/mo into a separate savings account until you have your budget for the system; then buy all the hardware at once. There are several reasons to do this rather than putting that money into the "savings account" of some pieces of hardware.
First would be the potential over the 5 months for new products to launch (unlikely in this case but still some potential).
Second, pricing may continue to decrease on the hardware you are looking at.
Lastly, and the primary reason imo, hardware can be DOA or have issues and buying parts piecemeal means you'll not be able to assemble and test that hardware until well after any return/exchange period; and you'll have used up some portion of the warranty period with the hardware just sitting in a box.
My fault. I'm not too familiar with the lineup and I was looking at a bundle deal with a processor when I did my price spot check on Amazon[www.amazon.com]. Didn't know the price by heart, and it seemed reasonable to me that Intel would have something at that price point, but I guess not. To be fair, Intel isn't exactly the talk of the town. They're mostly just an also-ran that was just probably looking to capitalize on the plague based shortages, but didn't really manage to make it quite time for that.
Silly thing is I was looking at some arc based cards, but mostly low profile cards 'cause A.M.D's. offerings are looking a litle long in the tooth in that segment, and Intel's low profile cards are from the 300 series.
resolution can be anywhere from like 1080 and up im really not super picky.
fps if i can play war thunder above 11fps its a win.
as for saving up and parting out the build well ♥♥♥♥ i didn't think of the warranty time going while i purchased it as it sits in a box so thats fun. i might have to just shuffle some money around and buy everything then. i snagged the 78--x3d at bestbuy last night, i got a razer keyboard and mouse because the felt the best out of every option they had in the store. the mouse is the basilisk v3 or something. i liked the thumb pocket in the side lol.
well ill report back here once i get everything i suppose but until then as always thanks for the help and ill catch yall in a bit once everything comes in. ill still jump in this thread and try to answer any questions i can until the pc gets all built and set up. thanks again
With a 7800X3D and an RTX 4070 Super (or similar) with 32GB of DDR5 6000 memory you'll definitely be able to get well over 100fps at 1440p with most settings on max in War Thunder.
Nice! I wouldn't worry too much if all you've gotten so far is the CPU and KBM. AMD has a 3 year warranty on your CPU so its not that big of a deal if you sock away your budget over the next 4ish months to get the rest of your hardware. While you were at BestBuy did you happen to see if they had any of the RTX 4070 Super Founders Edition in-stock? (I still wouldn't jump to get one until you are ready for the rest, just wondering if the store had them) For me locally (I don't have a Micro Center near me) finding RTX 40series gpu availability has pretty much just been at BestBuy in-store as I'm not keen on getting that through some rando 3rd party market place on Amazon.
Also, just in reference to pasa's previous reply regarding the CPU cooler; they are right that the 7800X3D is extremely efficient and for the most part will pull about 100W at high load so either air cooler should work without issue. I'd personally still prefer that 280mm Arctic Liquid Freezer III (depending on the case you decide on) from the stand point of thermals:noise. Not that the peerless assassin 120 is loud by any means; but at any given heat load a 120mm fan is going to be louder than 2x 240mm fans on a radiator.
Anyway, good luck and enjoy the new build once you get it setup :)
thanks bud, i didnt notice the 4070 super founders. i actually didnt notice any gpus it looked like amd or intel cpu only, i may have just been looking at the wrong side. If it helps you, im in texas and went to the killeen bestbuy.
regarding the cooler, ive been seeing a bunch of people talking about how they want their pcs as quiet as possible and that really doesn't bother me. i honestly sort of miss the robotic dinosaur screeching of way back when computers and dial up lol. my laptop definitely makes noises when its thinking so if the cooler has a little hum or buzz thats almost preferred as i know things are at least trying to work haha
im stoked, i was telling my wife that now i should buy everything at once because of warranties and stuff i didnt know or think about and she says "well that means you wont be able to get any new games for a minute and youll have to be happy playing your old games" like i wasn't about to load call of pripyat today XD
I think they've put them all locked up in their "pickup" area at the registers so you either have to ask or they have little QR codes to scan with the bestbuy app to "reserve" while you are in-store and you pick it up at the checkout. If you decide to go with the 4070 Super I'd just call the store and see if they have one in-stock; and if so you should be able to buy it online for in-store pickup and they will reserve it before you make the trek. Pretty much everything else I'd get online shipped to the house.
It'll still be relatively quiet and if you don't really care about noise at all then I'd probably lean toward the Peerless Assassin 120 SE since it is a great choice for how compact the cooler is.
🤣 nice. I'm sure you'll still be thrilled playing all your current games at 1440p with 100+fps or more lol
they had the 7800x3d in a glass case with the rest of the cpus and stuff, ram and something else was locked back there but by now yall know im not the most reliable source of what could be locked up lol. i did need an adult to come open the case for me. ive got everything else i need except a fancy chair in my amazon shopping cart, found a few things a little cheaper there and theyre the same name brand and spec yall sent over. i think the monitor was like 170 on amazon vs 200 online io think newegg and like 270 at the store in bestbuy.
one of the biggest reasons for me actually deciding to upgrade besides the games not being playable on this laptop is this turd is so slow, im not even sure how well it would run DOOM, and that can be played on literal potatoes XD
i love old games they remind me of a time where i didnt have bills and responsibilities or back pain lol they look pretty gross by comparison of new stuff obviously but they are still fun. im not even sure how many times ive beated vanilla morrowind, i just tried installing mods for it to make it look better and got confused by the "this mod is included in" tab so i ended up getting a whole bunch of nudie mods because the better armor and textures were all included in those, just to find out i didnt need those :d. its a learning process for me, now i gotta figure out how to remove the mods i dont want and go back to vanilla cuz something isnt right and i cant play anymore so oh well hah
but the current cards are not that good. 7900xt and xtx are great for what they offer but then you have to play lottery with faulty sk hynix memory, ridiculous hotspot delta and give up on raytracing, dlss and cuda alltogether.
ada lovelace is garbage. even the refresh leaves a lot to be desired. anything but the 4090 is going to become obsolete, if you care about frame gen and raytracing and higher resolutions than 1080p.
in the end I'm confused, brokenrotor said he doesn't care about resolution and fps, yet he opted for the 7800x3d... am4 would have probably served him well but what do I know
