Display Card & Bios Woes (1070 in a AM3+ mobo wont display)
I know the 1070 works as its from a friend and has been used it before. The CPU (FX-8350) works, machine posts, fans spin. Everything spins. Brand new top of the line monitor is in working order.

So I put the machine together, it posts, peripherals light up, power button works, fan control button works (old case eh), reset button works. However for the life of me I can not get display. Despite the fact the GTX1070FE has its LED light up and the fan spins. No weird smells.

Anyways I tried every fitting PCIE slot and all 3 display ports and the HDMI port. (Not the DVI as I have no cable)

Windows is not installed, I just have an empty SSD hooked up.

So second time I power it up I noticed peripherals don't light up, and the reset button doesn't work. I am very confused.

So I think the issue has something to do with UEFI vs legacy bios.

However the MOBO lacks a display port.

Would resseting the CMOS works?

This board is from 2011.

unplug everything else, just the power cables, hdmi, and the power switch

you do have a dimm plugged in right?
and a cpu cooler?

DIMM? As in Ram? yes I have 4 sticks of it.

And yes I have a CPU cooling fan on the heatskink.

So you want me to short the CMOS with the little 2 prong thing or take the battery out and put it back in?
you do not need to remove the battery to reset cmos using the jumper, just short it for a few secons

What cpu

What cpu

FX8350
The board is from 2011, the FX8350 appeared in 2012. The two are compatible but you may need a bios update for the cpu to work.

If you have another cpu maybe, put it in and update bios then swap the 8350 in.

It came with the CPU. I know the CPU and BIOS work, this is a buddies old CPU + MOBO. Though I bought the 64gb's of ram from a local shop. In case you are correct what is the process to correct this?

And remember I have zero signal.

Reset bios, best option I guess.

Try to boot with just bare essentials, cpu, 1 ram chip and whatever you have for a gpu. If you get a bios screen up then you should be good to finish install.

But wouldn't that guarantee myself to be in this predicament? As you said, the BIOS for the FX8350 was released a year after the board. I don't think thats a good idea.

It will not change anything like that, it will simply reset the mainboard to factory defaults, once you have a bios screen you can make any changes as needed.

Yes but I can't get into the BIOS screen. And why would this change that?

Someone thinks this is the issue actually:

did you plug in all the power connectors?
the 4+4 eps for the cpu?
and both of the 6+2 pci-e for the gpu?

those board will boot with the unsupported cpu, and you can update bios with them

its the am4 boards that would not boot with unsupported cpus

Yes. Accept its not a 4+4, bit a single 8 pin. Has CPU written on it. My PSU IS a CX750M from corsair. Quite recent. Everything is modular but an 8pin CPU connector and a 24pin mobo connector.
unplug everything else, just the power cables, hdmi, and the power switch

Use jumper pins on mainboard to reset, download manual if you need to. Should be marked bios reset, cmos reset, cmos rst or similar.

Why? It may be a bios setting causing your issue, nothing to do with uefi or legacy because at this point you should have a bare minimum setup, cpu, 1 ram chip and a gpu. no drives or w/e. all your trying to do is get a bios display, once you have that and confirmed the machine functions, then complete build, test as you go.

Aight I will give it a shot. I can just use a screwdriver on the pins right?
