recommend me a graphics card
(u can skip this 1st paragraph) soooooo i bought this gt720 a while ago and tbh i misjudged how good a gpu i needed haha. i got lucky because it overclocks absurdly high but still, even tho i can play all my games with it and get what the creators intended visually, i sometimes have to sacrifice some antialiasing or resolution

heres what im looking for:
-20 watts power usage the most
-no extra connections except for the main one on the motherboard, the long skinny one
-needs to fit (HP Compaq 8200 Elite Small Form Factor)
-needs to work with neckbeard os (linux) and macrohard winhoes 69 (windows 7)
-needs to have vga, displayport or dvi
-more powerful than gt720

i know the power use one makes it pretty tight, i already know of a variant of the gt1030 which seems to fit these specs (not sure what display connections it has tho), but noone is selling one atm, so id like to know if there are some other types to look for

edit: i decided to just get whatever gt1030 will fit, i did sum research and the 30 watt version will work fine. its not a big increase and its not like its always going to be maxxed out

i dont want to mess with the power supply, it would cost more money and more messing around, and i dont want to drive up the power bills any more. plus less heat
I don't know as much as these folks, but I've always been told that you should always get a new power supply when you upgrade your graphics card. Not sure if they are related, or if it's just a good way to remember to replace your power supply every so often.
yea, its been on my mind to get a spare parts pc or some of the key parts if one comes up
nothings ever broke on it but i really depend on it. ive heard that power supplies are one thing that can break in the long term

tru but none of the small 20w variant, and it hasnt changed for a month, hence the post, so i can also look for other types to maybe find a gpu sooner

You can't go around looking for a 20W GPU; there are none.

BTW I'm looking at tons of "Low Profile GT 1030" (30 watts) on Ebay as we speak; these are junk of course because they are like $99 ~ LOL what... I mean seriously what games you even going to play with these GPUs. I can't even imagine what you run with a GT 720... 10-12 year old games... and that's a maybe. Or just Indie games which would probably run fine using Onboard GPU.

i cannot imagine playing even minecraft with 1030

I wouldn’t upgrade that PC. It’s got Intel i5 2400 and 4 or 8GB of old RAM. No GPU will make that PC much faster.

At this price range I would try to find a second hand laptop. It’s even possible to find somebody giving a laptop stronger than that old office PC for free.
If steamdeck was cheaper it would also be an option due to super low power consumption and an ability to connect to a monitor + mouse and keyboard.
I would personally prefer turning my mobile into a desktop PC over upgrading that HP Pavilion.

i do run 10-12 year old games lol
most games i play are from the 2000s and like 2010. exceptions are like, unturned and endless sky. and war thunder
the gt720 runs every game i want, just not on full graphics for all of them

im very much gpu capped
and i just dont have any cpu or ram issues
i7 2600 and 8gb ram btw

Not even worth wasting money on a GT 1030 for the price they usually go for.

Up to you. You have likely just one option meeting your requirements and you may not like the results.

Changing to a cheap/free laptop would help to save money on electricity.
Lixire 28/fev./2024 às 1:42
Well... you won't really find a 20W GPU nowadays as hardly anyone focuses on that segment of the market. the closest would be a GT 1030 GDDR5 with about 30W power draw but overall.

No one really produces such low wattage cards that are "fast" due to modern iGPUs being much faster and consuming a whole lot less power
A&A 28/fev./2024 às 3:11
Get RX550/X and undervolt it. This is AMD's equivalent of the GT1030.

TDP: 50W Max
Undervolting from 1050mv to 900mv should use a maximum of 42W. Of course you can try something like 800mv (32W) but then you have to change the frequency and then the VRM efficiency drops and starts to make less of a difference.

War Thunder? On that... you must be joking. How can you even see to shoot anything. It can't be more then 720p at 20-30 fps on low graphics quality
It's Chase 29/fev./2024 às 7:33
There is no modern GPU that runs at just 20W, even the GT 1030 draws around 30W.

If you're REALLY trying to cut cost on your electric bill, I feel like putting more money towards your system is not the smartest idea if you can barely afford basic essentials.

Stick with what you have, and wait until you have a more substantial income.

but you do

the issue is that there just is not a card that fits your needs, now

it blows, but you are going to have to do some upgrading if you want anything else
