TV interupted on Comp power on/off?
Ok, this weird issue popped up for me recently and i can't figure it out. Basically if i'm streaming something on my TV, and i turn off my computer or i reboot it what ever i'm streaming on the TV stops. (basically what ever Tv app I'm using goes back to the screen where you start the show playing) I did just get a new tv, but it's the same one i had previously and it was not an issue.

I dunno if it's an update with windows as i did run a bigger windows update around the same time, so perhaps there is a setting that got changed? Maybe i should reset the modem, i don't even know where to begin as network config is not really my thing. Obviously there is some sort of interrupt going on, but i'm not sure why it started being a thing.

anyone have any thoughts on what is going on?

disable hdmi control on the tv

the tv is changing input because a source is being turned on, so it goes to that input

What PC graphics cards support CEC?
Don't power on or reboot the PC unless it is switched to that Input firstly, then wait until it's inside your OS before switching to a different input.

Configure Windows Updates to not auto restart.

I shouldn't of used Reboot, but if i reboot it would turn off twice one on power down and again on power up. But mainly it happens when i turn my comp on/off.

I'm not changing input's on the TV when this happens, I'm watching something on the tv but decide to turn my comp on for what ever reason, or often off at the end of the day.

There is a HDMI connected from the comp to tv, but it's not in use when this is happening. (though the cable did recently break and i need a new one so perhaps that is causing some issue, I'll unplug it just to double check that aspect)

I'm running a 1060, both tv and comp are hardwired.

This might be it check your tv setting for cec control options and disable it for the port you connect your pc to.

Ok, i checked that CeC control and it was already disabled. I unplugged the HDMI from my comp and it fixed it. So that does sound like it could be the issue.

I will have to wait to trouble shoot that aspect till i get a cable that doesn't have a broken end. It got bent when i set up my new TV. :(

thanks folks.
What devices are you streaming with what all is plugged into the tv? any HDMI splitters?

It's a smart TV, so it's just the APP i installed on it, in this case it was doing it with Tubi. No spliter. It has a dvd and a HDMI converter for my X-box (original) but those are both off.

Is that "converter" thing new to your setup or always been there?
TVs and Monitors have an input select. This can be set manually where you manually switch the HDMI 1, 2, 3; etc. yourself as needed or this is set to Auto, where it auto detects a signal change and then auto switches to that input because of it. So maybe stick to manual mode of input switching and it shouldn't do this. And with a digital connection like HDMI the PC and Display should be able to keep a live signal between the two devices even when the input is not actively set to it, such as when rebooting the PC while the TV is displaying something else such as onboard app or another input.

newer android tvs dont treat the inputs as sources tho
they are more like capture
they process them, and output to the display

it can overlay volume and google menus over the source display signal

look at the tv settings to see if it has option to disable cec

No, I got the new TV and the HDMI cable broke, but it was still plugged in the back. It worked fine for the last 3 years. LIke i said i did update my comp with a larger windows patch so that was the only thing i could think of. It's the same TV though, same OS ect so the only real change was the comp update and the bent HDMI cable.

My TV is not set to auto anything, i much prefer manual.

I did that and it was already disabled. Nothing was even registered because when i hit scan it said no device found. Powered off devices don't show up, or at least my super old ones don't.

Anyways unplugging the non-working cable fixed the issue, perhaps there was some sort of short or error with only part of the cable was working? If i removed the input icon it would pop up as something there when i turned the tv back on even if the thing wouldn't work. It knew something was there, it just didn't know what.

Seriously? Such cables are under $15 replace it.

Look at ANKER FLAT HDMI Cables perhaps. But regardless of the cable, do NOT allow any sharp bends in the cable, you crack or sever the wiring and such inside.

Not the length i need and i buy quality wiring. It bent when i pulled the tv out, not how it was routed. It got caught on the edge.
