Random lag after graphic card change, even after full pc rebuild
Hi, it is my first time posting on this group. I need your help because I've tried everything I could think off to fix those random and omnipresent lags in game since I changed from a Evga 3060Ti to a Asus Tuf 6800XT.

Here are the different parts I have shifted to look for the source :

Ryzen 3800X / Ryzen 7 5800X

Biostar 550mh / Asus B550 plus

Powergame 650W / Corsair RM850x 850W

Kimitigo 2x16Go 3600hz CL19 / Viper Steel 2x16Go 3200hz Cl16 (and I have switched back to the Kimtigo since the test)

Reset windows with keeping data and driver unistallation with DDU.

Different pagfile.sys size, configuration and even disabling it.

What's left :

Crucial NVME 500Go CT500P5PSSD8

Crucial SSD SATA 1To CT1000MX500SSD1

and... that's it.

On every benchmark I'm having excellent results, and between the lags the performance in-game is excellent. On UserBenchmark, all components are performing above expectation (except CPU wich is "just" average). Futhermore in-game my CPU never exceeds 60°C (2 fan AIO) and GPU 65°C. During benchmarks I think I never see those lag, except in Heaven Benchmark. Only game that seems to not be concerned by those periodic lags is Xplane 12.

A good way to create the lag is spawning in MhRise in the village, talking to any NPC and when the autosave come on (green howl on the lower right of screen) the game lag with the exact half a second-behaviour as I'm getting on other games every 5 to 20 seconds. On Youtube watching tutorials and gameplay lags never happen during that autosave. I've moved the game from one drive to another and exactly the same behaviour. Crucial Storage Executive says drive are in good shape.

Please tell me if you see any test procedure wich may help determine the cause of those lags... Thanks in advance.

did you install the correct drivers?
mobo chipset/audio/lan etc.. from mobo mfg site
and gpu from amd/nvidia/intel
use ddu in safe mode to remove all previous gpu drivers and leftovers before installing the new one

Definitely something to start with, lots of hardware changes but no mention of updates in OP's post. I would personally have gone for a re-install of OS rather than a reset with that kind of hardware change.

yea, new mobo should be a new os install
then all mobo drivers will be clean instead of updating older drivers and their relative changes that would not be uninstalled or reused

Wondows is so smart (obvious sarcasm) that can decide what drivers you need and replace drivers you installed. Like removing GPU drivers and installing its own.
I can only assume it can do the same with motherboard/chipset drivers and mess up PCIe performance.

Thank you for your responses. Yes I have unistalled with DDU in safe mode and updated every driver.

Yes I have tried all of the above, lowering graphic settings and caping the fps to 30. The problem stil occurs. Every temps are normal and in the lower range I might say. I think with what you've said I'm gone for a full OS re install. I'm going to take my whole nigh copying my work to my ssd lol

I'm going to guess shader compilation might be part (or all?) of it, since it happened after the switch?

Update BIOS revision for better compatibility regarding your RAM and CPU.

Once back in Windows, run DDU app again. This time bring up it's OPTIONS and select the option near the very bottom for Allow Safe Mode. Then close the options, followed by the DDU app. Then relaunch DDU again, now should be a small popup looking screen for DDU, select Safe Mode + Restart as your options.

Once in Safe Mode, change the Options once more, every box that has an option to wipe something, select it. Then close the options. Select each GPU one at time, for each clicking on "Clean but do not restart/shutdown"

Once all 3 are cleaned out, restart Windows normally.

Once back in Windows, download and install the Ryzen Chipset Driver:
https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/amd-socket-am4/b550
AMD Chipset Drivers
Revision Number: 6.01.25.342
File Size: 66 MB
Release Date:1/31/2024

Once the install has completed, restart Windows.

Then download & install the AMD GPU Driver:
https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-6000-series/amd-radeon-6800-series/amd-radeon-rx-6800-xt
AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition
Revision Number: Adrenalin 24.1.1
File Size: 641 MB
Release Date: 1/23/2024

Once the install has completed, restart Windows.

Now check and configure the AMD Adrenalin software.

Also, Run Disk Cleanup (Run As Admin) and wipe all that junk.

If you have games installed with which you ran before using an NVIDIA GPU, locate the game config file and delete it. Then it will create this fresh upon next launch of said game. Most games store these config files with Documents or %LocalAppData% structures.

To better test your CPU + GPU; I suggest using 3DMark or Unigine Superposition. You can download 3DMark Free Edition from the makers site.
