Is it SATA or USB?

About the only thing DVDR is good for any more is making backup copies of Digital Shows, Movies, other DVDs and for backing up precious data.

Blank DVD+R and -R discs come in single layer 4.7GB and dual layer 8.5GB

Since it can read and write DVDs it can also handle CDs. So if you have a CD audio player still around or perhaps have an older vehicle with one inside, you could make copies of audio CDs or create your own MP3 CD

Probably best to buy one that's USB. That way you can use it on any PC or Laptop. As should you do a newer PC build at some point, you'd want to stop using 5.25 inch drives as such cases without them provide much better airflow.

Back in the days of CDs Plextor burners were able to write some stuff other burners usually couldn't, iirc broken sectors or sectors that were out of boundary. Don't nail me on the details, last time I saw a Plextor burner was like 20 years ago.
I assume that the same might apply for Plextor DVD burners.

yea, there were a few forms of it

the last few stacks of dvd-r discs i bought were white printable labels
easy to write on with marker or you could put them in an injket printer and print color image on them

Plextor was just a brand like Western Digital is to hard drives. But, they were usually on the cutting edge of cd/dvd burning technology so enthusiasts would brag abour owning Plextor drives which were a bit expensive.

Nowadays though any optical drive of any major brand (LG/Sony/etc) is probably better than an outdated Plextor drive.

If they are still making drives (which they might be, I have no idea), I would still opt for anything cheaper or average priced.

They probably stopped making optical drives a while ago, but the brand itself was laid to rest recently by it's current owner, Kioxia:

i have no laptop and my pc has 5,25 dvd-burner, internal. else: i dont need airflow...may case is open on every side...and i still wonder if the plextor dvd-burner is better...i mostly use it for watching dvd movies and for ripping my audio cd's...i own some(~300).

most of the drives will have a mfg date
if its old it may need a new laser or to clean its lens
humboldt 8. feb. 2024 kl. 11:08
what is a "mfg date", please?

"manufacturing date"?
