Plennty options in the market.... I still think it's better to rip them

As you could get a standalone bluray player for around $49 that can play 1080p and 4K Bluray movie discs and can hookup to any Display via HDMI.
It be another thing if you needed a reliable Burner. Otherwise Bluray Movie Discs via PC is somewhat a pointless venture.
(i mean the blu ray thing with pc)
As far as I can tell 4k bluray players are at least $170 or around there. Regular bluray players are around $75.
Is a good point.
I think my mind is made up. I'll just get a standalone player and not worry about using my PC for this. Thanks all for the knowledge.
Out of curiosity, are you talking about the BDP-S6700 model on Amazon? Because I took at look at it and something seems weird to me. I'm wondering if that's a typo because that same model (even if not the one you're talking about) looks like it's $119 on BestBuy.
But on BestBuy in the main name of the product doesn't say anything about playing 4k discs, but in the specs does say it's "4K UHD Blu-ray Player" is the kind of optical drive it has.
In the Amazon comments, one person about that BDP-S6700 model says that it doesn't play 4k UHD discs which is what I would imagine, but now I'm just confused on that product and wondering what's up between both sites (wouldn't be surprised if they both just scrambled the data/info on it getting it wrong because "oh well").
It doesn't play 4K UHD Bluray disks. It has 4K upscaling from regular bluray disks.
S6700 is only 4K Upscaling. Will not provide playback for 4K Bluray Discs
X700M is True 4K and also supports HDR as well as Dolby Vision and Atmos and is Region-Free. It will of course be able to also upscale 1080p Bluray and also DVD up to 4K res.
The X700M can be found online at various retailers for around $150-160 range (was $260 from Sony, which they now sell for $180
Sorry for any confusion.
Keep in mind most Bluray movies are 1080p. Only the ones that came out in the last couple years are 4K
Seems a bit ridiculous as I remember being able to get 1080p Sony Bluray players at BestBuy and Walmart years ago for $49
It's kind of why I got away from discs completely around 2015 and continued just downloading all movies and shows, which I was mostly already doing since around 2004 or so but I did have over 500 movies on DVD/BR.
You'll go broke buying this stuff on discs and then years from now you won't have any ways to use it.
Not when the outlets are not up to code.
there is no difference in how the data is read from the disc
the drive does no decoding or anything
its the player software that decodes and plays the media, 4k or 1080p
The firmware of that particular LG drive does.
