REPOST Game Freezes On Loading Screen
TLDR: My games freeze whenever I play on fullscreen mode. It unfreezes for a second however whenever I pause and unpause the menu rapidly.

(Repost sort-of Update.)

I was just downloading some workshop mods for one of my games. Played, exited the game, downloaded more, replayed. But then all of the sudden everything broke.

Every time I boot up the game, it gets stuck on the loading screen.

I redownloaded the game and it still had the same error.

Then I checked my other games and they ALL had the same error. Everytime I get to the loading screen, the screen completely freezes.

I redownloaded all the games, cleared my cache and Steam's, downloads, mods, factory reset my PC and redownloaded Windows.

Still frozen.

Then I even uninstalled Steam and reinstalled it but the same issue pursued.

However after messing with the settings I discovered it doesn't freeze on windowed-fullscreen mode, only freezes using fullscreen.

Any possible solutions or answers?

Can you post a video of this happening? Like full desktop view?
_I_ 2024년 2월 2일 오후 4시 29분
define 'reset'
hitting the reset button to reboot the pc?
or reinstalling windows or drivers?

freeze/lockup is often psu problem, not strong enough
or unstable overclock

full specs?

post a cpuz validation link
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
cpuz -> validate button -> submit button
it will open a browser, copy the url (address) and paste it here

if its only a specific game, you can ask in the games forum
or remove the mod and try again

It would help if you provided us some information: What video card do you have? What CPU do you have? What version of windows do you have? How much system ram is in your computer? What games are you trying to play that causes this problem?

We can't help you if you don't provide us with information.

If this happens to all games and only games then common denominator would be the Gpu and/or its driver, have you checked that you have the correct driver? or maybe rolled back and clean installed an earlier one?

Sound drivers can also produce this error, maybe disable sound to test and check its driver too.

Actually, make sure all your drivers are correct, windows installed generic drivers are not the best.

Reinstalling or Resetting the OS would then have the OS on your system as NOT gaming ready so to speak; since it will then need YOU to download & install various drivers and such before it could be considered "ready for gaming"

I do not have a PC. I've been using the same Microsoft laptop to play Steam for the last 4 years. (Surface Pro 7)

I factory reset my PC and reinstalled my apps. I've been using a regular Microsoft Surface Pro 7 for the last 4 years.

That is still a PC and it runs Windows. It's just a tablet computer/laptop. Windows tablets and Windows laptops are still PC's. I just looked and all versions of the Microsoft Surface computer only have the Intel iGPU and not an actual dedicated video card. That's most likely your problem.

Check the system requirements for each game you are trying to play on the game's steam store page. If it says it requires a dedicated video card in it's system requirements (from either AMD or Nvidia) then of course none of those games would ever work on your computer and you should not expect they would work on your computer.

I just checked and Halo: MCC does require a dedicated video card in the system specs and you don't have one.

This means you are trying to play a game that your computer does not meet the system requirements to play it. So this is a you problem. You shouldn't of tried to play that game.

It makes no sense though. I've been played 70+ games, including newer released ones in recent years and even computer-demanding games like Destiny 2, The Division, Battlefront, Ready or Not, Trepang2, etc.

I have around 1000 hours using just this device.

I had 170 hours in Halo: MCC before it froze for the first time on the loading screen which then affected all games.

It makes perfect sense: You have been playing games that your computer does not meet the requirements to be able to run those games. You should expect anything like this to happen at any moment and you should also expect the games to not even start at all. That's what you get when you use unsupported hardware on games that don't meet the requirements for those games.

Fortunately, I found my own "half" solution which has nothing to do with my system requirements. This screen-freeze has happened with other players. Fullscreen optimization is what bugs my game, not windowed fullscreen however. I just play in windowed fullscreen mode now, that's it. My device is perfectly fine.

that most likely drivers
windows does a crap job at grabbing the correct ones, it takes a guess and grabs generic ones
get the correct ones from the mfg/oem site

Surface is for work stuff. It's not going to run most games, it was never meant to.
All it has is Intel HD Graphics.
